A few weeks ago I was heading over to Natural Bridge State Park and my GPS told me to turn left, which would have run me into a cliff base. After that, I started calling my Garmin “GyPSy”, for she will lead you astray.
That said the bail policy stinks. With NCIC data system and several other factors the chances of the driver getting away scott free were not huge and even if he did the conviction would follow him nationwide where ever he tried to get a job driving or even pulled over on a routine trafic stop.
But then Im a luddite
not completely you have a computer!!! I don't have a GPS and will never have o one, I use a map to.. mapquest mapit or google map all are stupid and give stupid directions.
My uncle tells the story of when he drove a rig and was overweight on a back road to miss the scales on the interstate. He met another truck and was warned of the portable scales up ahead. He drove within a couple of ridges of it and then started walking towards them.
When he got there, “Boy - am I lucky you guys are here so I don’t have to walk all the way into town. Could you radio out a tow-truck? My rig is broke down aways back.”
He waited with the troopers and telling stories until the tow truck came. A bit later came through being towed - and waving to the troopers and “thanks a bunch”, etc. around the scales.
On the other side of town he unhitched from the tow-truck and was on his way. I always wondered if it was a tall-tale. Sounded like a lot of trouble to go through to avoid the scales. But - I guess if one can get arrested and jailed for it, perhaps it was the truth.
Unfortunately, I have 3 GPS locators, a Magellan, a Travel Star and, of course, the GPS locator in my cell phone. The problem is, each one gives me a different coordinate while standing in the exact same position.
The Magellan GPS shows me at being at: 33.36.32 114.31.05
The Travel Star GPS shows: 33.36.52 114.31.12
Now, if we use the old rule of thumb that a mile is a minute and a minute is a mile, the few seconds difference is not too bad, if someone is looking for you. You see the search helo and you can pop smoke so they will see you.
Where it gets dicy is that my cell phone GPS locator, the one that 911 uses to direct help to your direction shows: 33.43.02 114.31.13
Once again, using the old rule of thumb, that puts it SEVEN MILES off target. Now if you're on one side of a mountain, and the cell phone GPS directs the search helo to the other side of the mountain, you might not even see them so you can pop smoke for them.
So, I'll still carry a GPS locator when I'm in the desert, but I'll stick with paper maps where ever possible when traveling.

A couple of years ago, the GPS I was using literally took me in circles. Even down an alley. Turns out someone had programmed the coordinates incorrectly. The guy at the 7-11 explained it, saying people came in all the time with the same complaint.
Thanks for the pings, Trib.
When I was working and heading west from Center City, except for rush hours it was often quicker for me to take I95 to I476 to PA3 instead of the convoluted Philly streets.
By the way, as I recall the states are all part of a driver’s compact, where any infraction will be reported to your home state DMV. I know that NY would pull licenses for out-of-stste bench warrants. That would ensure his response to the court without the excessive bail or the cash only requirement. Putting a hold against his CDL puts him out of work until it’s resolved. His lawyer should be able to cover the bail using his escrow account, why didn’t he?
The GPS in our new car keeps telling us we live in a vacant lot half-way down the block - and to think, in a few years they’ll be landing planes at airports all over this country.....
Yea - until recently Map Quest did not even list my
street
When plotting a route had to use address of next street
as said could not find my street

It sounds like he doesn't have the most ambitious lawyer.
Well, in order to use the brain God gave you and override GPS when it gives stooooooppppiiidddd instruction youd have to be following a map the old-fashioned way, figuring things out for yourself.I'll go with Luddite also -- especially since I started as a mainframe sysop before there was an internet and worked in the field right up through 1990s-- no real trust in technology.
Oh stick it up your arese! You big baby, you probably can’t get out of bed in the morning without crying!
You have larger issues with which to deal than I. ROTFLMAO
