BREAKING: Perry disqualified from Va. primary ballot

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry failed to submit enough valid signatures to qualify for the Virginia primary ballot, state GOP officials said Friday evening.

Perry’s campaign told state election officials it had submitted 11,911 signatures, but a Virginia Republican familiar with the situation said that the Texas governor did not submit the required 10,000.

Earlier Friday, the Republican Party of Virginia certified former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.) to appear in the March ballot.

Four candidates — Romney, Perry, Paul and former House speaker Newt Gingrich — turned in thousands of signatures by the deadline. State party officials are spending the day certifying the signataries.

They have not examined Gingrich’s signatures yet, but expected to do so by late Friday night.

Candidates had until 5 p.m. to collect 10,000 signatures from across the state, including 400 from each congressional district.

Republican presidential candidates Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman and Rick Santorum did not submit signatures, according to state GOP officials

Sorry, Perry-ites, but there’s no conspiracy here.

I wasn't suggesting there was a conspiracy, rather outright incompetence on the part of the campaign.

Don’t think they have checked Newt’s signatures yet. Same thing could happen to him.

But didn’t the Great Larry Sabato promise us the RPV would turn a blind eye to any deficits in the petition signatures?

11K that Perry and Gingrich submitted was cutting it awfully close.

WOW!

No it's another

OOPS

But VA has strict rules they follow and it takes effort to make sure you have qualified voters to sign the petition. Submitting a bunch of names without verifications is a crap shoot at best.

I have not been a Perry fan, but this is BS. I am sure he had enough.

Obozo and Hildebeast are proven cheaters in Indiana from 2008, but who is running things and why are they still running things when they cheated to qualify?

While your comment is funny - if not very fair - you do raise and interesting point.

I’m sure Perry is a fine man. He’s certainly not done a bad job as Texas governor.

But what is it about my adopted home state that causes such horrifically inarticulate people to ascend to governor. Bush wasn’t this bad, admitttedly, but still.

I promise you we have well-spoken, intelligent conservatives here in abundance. My own congresscritter, Louis Goehmert, for example, is wonderful. For some reason, though, we’ve had 20 years worth of governors who are, shall we say, severely oratorically challenged.

Odd.

I heard Faux news announce this. Says it’s by the VA GOP.

My guess, Gingrich won’t quaify either come Monday.

Romney has already bought the support he needs. Why is everybody still pretending the Republican primary is any sort of legitimate contest?

So VA going to hand the VA primary to Romney?

Depending upon how Gingrich comes out with valid signatures it will be either a two or three person primary contesting the 50 Virginia delegates.

Romney and Paul have qualified with Gingrich’s petitions being certified.

50 Virginia delegates up for grabs amongst the
