Kwanzaa creator to visit area, speak about seven principles (BARF!)
The PIttsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | 12/27/2022 | Mark Kanny

Local observances of Kwanzaa will get a special boast this year by the return of Maulana Karenga, the man who created the holiday 45 years ago.

A reverent and joyous celebration of family, community and culture based on values derived from African heritage, Kwanzaa is observed from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 by an estimated 20 million to 30 million people worldwide. Unlike Hannukah and Christmas, which precede it, Kwanzaa is not a religious holiday.

"Certainly, Kwanzaa has both a particular and universal message," Karenga says. "It first speaks directly to African people, offering the best views and values from the culture and community from which it comes. But it also speaks to others, for it reflects the best of what it means to be both African and human in the fullest sense. Others, seeing and sensing this, are often appreciative of its message and meaning."

Karenga will speak on "Kwanza and the Seven Principles: Sustaining and Sharing the World" at 7 p.m. Thursday at Hill House Association in the Hill District. The daylong event is co-sponsored by Kente Arts Alliance, Ujamaa Collective and Hill House Association.

Hill House activities will begin with arts and crafts for children at 3 p.m. Family activities start at 5 p.m. and include performances by Temujin the Storyteller, poet LaKeisha Wolf, Roger Humphries and the Rh Factor band, the Adorations Gospel Group and the Balafon West African Dance Ensemble. A feast and gift-giving are part of the event.

Other celebrations of Kwanzaa will combine cultural activities and reflection on Kwanzaa's meaning and will include refreshments and gift-giving. The Young Men and Women's African Heritage Association on the North Side will show the various ways Kwanzaa is observed, featuring music, dancing and drumming.

Ok let me ask- Do any black freepers here feel embarrassed over the likes of these morons?

How about the “Reverend” Al Sharpton?

It would really leave me PO’d if some clown like that was called up by all the liberal news organizations every time they wanted to know what all the white people think.

"... Family activities start at 5 p.m. and include performances by Temujin the Storyteller"

Genghis Khan is going to be there telling stories? 'Temujin' is now an African name?

If Temujin the Storyteller starts in with reciting to the children 'The Three Greatest Things In Life', I have to say that I don't like the direction this Kwanzaa thing is going.

Reflect on Kwanzaa’s meaning?

Is there a Guinness record for shortest reflection?

Why should anyone want to celebrate “collective economics”? It would seem much wiser to celebrate the abandonment of collective economics (which is, in significant measure, what allowed the Plymouth Colony to start thriving after a very dismal start).

I’ve heard very little about Kwanzaa in the MSM this year.

I heard that only about 5% of black Americans observe Kwanzaa.

I like the picture we’ve seen recently here, where a teacher is lighting the candles for Kwanzaa, and the caption reads that only white elementary school teachers observe Kwanzaa. Given the liberal bent of teachers, wanting to be PC and remind us that there are many holidays this time of year, I would believe it’s true.

I thought I heard that the 7 principles of Kwanzaa are based on Marxism/socialism. So that right there, if true, makes one wonder if Karenga was trying to make a political statement when he invented his holiday.

20 to 30 million people worldwide?

More like 2 to 3 thousand in the US, tops. Africans have never heard of it.
Why does anybody give Ron Everett the slightest bit of attention?

On the first day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
A Marxist in a red tree.

On the second day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the third day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Three Dixie Chicks.
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the fourth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Four Lenin busts.
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the fifth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Five fel-on-ies.
Four Lenin busts,
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the sixth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Six Castro jumpsuits.
Five fel-on-ies,
Four Lenin busts,
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the seventh day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Seven Mao pajamas,
Six Castro jumpsuits,
Five fel-on-ies,
Four Lenin busts
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

This is also good for a laugh:

By Kathy Shaidle

‘Twas the night before Kwanzaa
And all through the ‘hood,
Maulana Karenga was up to no good.

He’d tortured a woman and spent time in jail.
He needed a new scam that just wouldn’t fail.
(”So what if I stuck some chick’s toe in a vice?
Nobody said revolution was nice!”)

The Sixties were over. Now what would he do?
Why, he went back to school — so that’s “Dr.” to you!
He once ordered shootouts at UCLA
Now he teaches Black Studies just miles away.

Then to top it all off, the good Doctor’s new plan
Was to get rid of Christmas and piss off The Man.

Karenga invented a fake holiday.
He called the thing Kwanza. “Hey, what’s that you say?

“You don’t get what’s ‘black’ about Maoist baloney?
You say that my festival’s totally phony?

“Who cares if corn isn’t an African crop?
Who cares if our harvest’s a month or two off?
Who cares if Swahili’s not our mother tongue?
A lie for The Cause never hurt anyone!

“Umoja! Ujima! Kujichagulia, too!
Collectivist crap never sounded so cool!
Those guilty white liberals — easy to fool.
Your kids will now celebrate Kwanzaa in school!”

And we heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight:
“Happy Kwanzaa to all, except if you’re white!”
