Medical Journal Article: 14,000 U.S. Deaths Tied to Fukushima Fallout
Radiation Public Health Project ^ | Dec 19, 2011 | Joseph J. Mangano

WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 19, 2011 -- An estimated 14,000 excess deaths in the United States are linked to the radioactive fallout from the disaster at the Fukushima nuclear reactors in Japan, according to a major new article in the December 2011 edition of the International Journal of Health Services. This is the first peer-reviewed study published in a medical journal documenting the health hazards of Fukushima........

Just six days after the disastrous meltdowns struck four reactors at Fukushima on March 11, scientists detected the plume of toxic fallout had arrived over American shores. Subsequent measurements by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found levels of radiation in air, water, and milk hundreds of times above normal across the U.S. The highest detected levels of Iodine-131 in precipitation in the U.S. were as follows (normal is about 2 picocuries I-131 per liter of water): Boise, ID (390); Kansas City (200); Salt Lake City (190); Jacksonville, FL (150); Olympia, WA (125); and Boston, MA (92).

etc

We just did this a week ago! Is there a shortage of unadulterated crap on FR? We’re running re-runs now??

It’s not only a re-run, but it should be in Bloggers, not News.

To bad FR doesn’t have a category specifically for insane bloggers.

This is insane. I am shocked any reputable journal would publish it.

A million homeless die every day, you know.

Or so Al Sharpton once told us.

And 30,000 “children” die every year from evil guns.

Or so Sara Brady tells us.

Why can’t 14,000 people die from Fukushima? Hmmmmm?

Yeeearrggghhhhhhh!!!!!

You cannot really put much weight on this report because it is based on speculation, but it is note worthy. Similar to the speculation that cold shutdown has been achieved, when they cannot even measure the temperatures of the majority of the nuclear core material.

IMHO - Still more important to analyze right now what is happening in Japan. They have recently found Cesium in well water around Fukushima, more reports of iodine 131 being found in numerous locations, giant sized vegetables grown in Japan similar to after WWII atomic bombing, seals found dead along coast of Alaska being tested for radiation and a recent admission by a high level Japanese official that the corium has probably broke out beyond the RPV steel lining.

In Japan at least, it will not be a happy New Year.

That should read.

Thanks one and all for your responses. I need to spend more time studying this topic tonight, as I have a nice glow to read by, even with the lights off. ;)

I don't know exactly what the article means by "peer reviewed." And uberlib UW is in Western Washington. I'm in Spokane, a mostly Repub town.

None of which has anything whatsoever to do with the possibility of dangerous levels of radiation dropping out of the sky over my family. I was hoping some smart freeper would post scientific evidence to the contrary, but all I'm getting is political opinion.

That you have had the other like-minded, tenured progressives at your State-funded University reach the same pre-determined conclusions????

In the medical research field, "peer-review" means that a manuscript is sent to experts who are knowledgable about the specific topic of the manuscript, who review it for clarity of writing, methodology, and scientific accuracy before a decision is made whether to accept it for publishing.

This "International Journal of Health Services" is not, as far as I can tell, peer-reviewed. The author mentioned, Joseph Mangano, has not, as far as I can tell from a PubMed search, ever published an article in a peer-reviewed journal.

Get a couple more x-rays. Think of the lifetime savings on D-cell batteries alone.

“estimated 14,000 excess deaths”

This is bull. These are made up statistics. There is no way 14,000 people have died in such a short time. This article should be taken down as garbage.

whoa...concrete statistics here ..

nternist and toxicologist Janette Sherman, MD, said: “Based on our continuing research, the actual death count here may be as high as 18,000, with influenza and pneumonia, which were up five-fold in the period in question as a cause of death. Deaths are seen across all ages, but we continue to find that infants are hardest hit because their tissues are rapidly multiplying, they have undeveloped immune systems, and the doses of radioisotopes are proportionally greater than for adults."

18k deaths that wont be counted as caused by Climate Change or 2nd hand smoke or... interesting that US casualties exceed Japanese casualties.br /

Well, for starters you might consider what the biological mechanism is for causing so many people to drop dead in Boise within a very short time of being exposed to levels of radiation that are roughly similar to normal levels in Aspen Colorado.

The answer is that there is no such mechanism.

NB: The natural annual background radiation level at sea level is about 25 millirems. It is about 50 millirems in Denver. Ask yourself, do the Beautiful People who live in Malibu keel over shortly after reaching their ski lodges in Aspen, Vail, or Park City?
