s we pop the corks of our proverbial champagne this weekend with an eye to a better year ahead, perhaps it is worth thinking about these 11 incredible trends that have evolved in a rather disturbing manner over the last 11 years. As John Lohman points out, the 21st century has not been pretty for ongoing centrally planned attempts to defer the 30 year overdue mean reversion.

Labor Force participation is especially disturbing.

Down, from 67% to 64%.

To put that in perspective, about 140 million people were employed in 2000.

About 140 million are employed today, in 2011.

Unfortunately, USA population increased by 30 million, most of that from legal immigration.

The Social Security and Medicare Ponzi schemes cannot survive for long with a trend like that.

No one will be stupid enough - or desperate enough - to move here.

If you were sitting in on a stealth communist strategy committee 50 years or more ago, and were assessing ways to alter American society, what would you target? Wouldn't it make sense to encourage the development of government dependency and an entitlement mentality among the most vulnerable factions of US society? Wouldn't it make sense to encourage racial and class resentment? Wouldn't it make sense to encourage immigration from countries more likely to result in decreased assimilation and more political and demographic shifts?

While considering that, think about where we might be right now if Reagan hadn't been elected and we had continued down the path set by Carter. If the trends graphically represented in these charts aren't a wake-up call, what will be?

Perfect Issue Ads for the comming election, ending with “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?”

All candidates should be held to the answer.

While we were under Reagan we sat back and new who was driving after he left Bush sr arrived and we still sat back thinking we knew who was driving. Then Clinton stepped in and we woke up for a moment fell back to sleep woke up briefly to elect the other Bush and fell back to sleep again until we woke up to this nightmare. There’s a lesson to be learned here

Yes,the lesson is “It is the common fate of the indolent to see their rights become a prey to the active. The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance.” John Philpot Curran, Irish orator, 1790.

Nobody is claiming a perfectly timed cycle, but rather a disturbing trend over time.....11 years is simply the timeframe..

If you were sitting in on a stealth communist strategy committee 50 years or more ago

If you were sitting in on a war cabinet meeting with Churchill 70 years ago......

Churhill's list of priorities to destroy the Nazis....

1. Destroy the means of oil and petroleum production and distribution.

2. Destroy electrical distribution and coal production

3. Destroy manufacturing capacity starting with ball bearing factories.

for a triple bagger...bomb the Ruhr dams and flood the Ruhr valley

4. Terrorize the domestic population....fire bomb Dresden.

Seems to me Obambi is channeling Churchill.

Hmmm
The stlouisfed.org site seems to be not responding
could it be that too many people are looking at bad trends?

I was impressed by this one, illustrating the systemic dishonest of government statistics:
