Arab League observers have been on a mission since Monday to assess whether Syria has halted its nine-month crackdown on protests against President Bashar al-Assad.

But a group that advises the Arab League says the monitors, some with a controversial history, are inadvertently helping the Syrian regime cover its continued violent crackdown.

Some Syrian opposition groups are even calling for the immediate withdrawal of the mission, which was expected to last for a month.

Ashraf Al -Moqdad, an opposition activist, spoke to Al Jazeera from Cairo, Egypt's capital, on why he believes the Arab mission has failed in Syria.

I am so surprised.

May they keep killing each others, during that time they leave us alone.

Happy new year to all from Eurabia.

The Syrian agitprop claims that the Assad regime's snipers are foreign terrorists recruited by the CIA; meanwhile the Sudanese war criminal heading the observer mission denies that the earlier confrontation between one of the actual Arab League observers and the gov't kill teams was merely "hypothetical". In case it's not clear, the Arab League Parliament is merely an advisory body, making non-binding (often ignored) recommendations to the fascist oligarchies running the member countries.

It will be interesting to see what happens if one of the delegation is accidently killed by the “non violent” Assad regime. Meanwhile it is estimated that the death toll in Syria is above 5,000. I think that is more than our troops killed in the entire Iraq conflict.

When, in the last 200 years, has an Arab mission ever succeeded?

When did it become unacceptable for a government to put down an anarchist rebellion?

That certainly wasn't the thinking in this country in 1861 when Democrats fired on our flag at Fort Sumter.

When did a dictatorship become a government, and when did wanting to dump the despot become anarchist rebellion.

Kudos though for the 1861 reference.

The Khartoum Declaration has succeeded in maintaining a state of war, but that wasn’t just Arabs.

:’) As long as it’s that Sudanese war criminal, I don’t care which side does it.

"When did a dictatorship become a government"

Dictatorship is the oldest form of government and is the only form of government that will work among uncivilized peoples.
