When it is completed, it will be the tallest building in Manhattan and one of incredible poignancy for New York City.
One World Trade Center reached its 90th floor this week - with just 14 more floors to go until the top. The structure can now be seen from all five boroughs of the city.
Stunning pictures showed how the area has been reborn since the 9/11 attacks more than a decade ago where almost 3,000 people lost their lives in the worst ever terrorist attack on American soil.

One World Trade Center is on track to be completed by 2013 with construction workers approximately finishing a floor a week in downtown Manhattan.
Electrical contractors at the tower agreed to give it a festive feel and wrapped the exterior lamps they use with coloured cellophane in time for Christmas.

One of my most memorable experiences was when my wife and I went to NYC for our honeymoon in 1977. We had dinner at Windows on the World, the restaurant at the top of the World Trade Center. The view was incredible and unforgettable. The food and service was pretty good also.

Thank you for posting. I had dinner several times at the Trade Center. I also “temped” there in my youth and wonder how many of the people I worked with were lost. At that time, I was working for David Stockman.
My husband lost many friends that day - he was well connected to the restaurant.
They were iconic buildings and I mourn their loss.

I can appreciate those sentiments. I feel the same way about Las Vegas. But, let me assure you that NYC is a city of great friendship and comradery. It is a place where you can be alone in a crowd or a part of it, should you so choose. NYC is filled with 'neighborhoods' where you can enjoy the best Italian pizza, awesome Jewish deli fare, amazing Chinese cuisine ... and the list goes on and on. New Yorkers are resourceful and quickly figure out how to turn catastrophe into personal gain. When the power went out following the 911 attack, 'rickshaws' turned up on the streets to assist in transporting people around.
New York, New York .. a wonderful town!

I’m so touched by your praise of my beloved hometown! It is a wonderful city despite its terrible flaws.
No American should ever forget that on the day of 9/11, New Yorkers immediately went to all the hospitals to donate their blood. Sadly, it was not needed because their fellow residents were all dead. Of course, any decent American would do the same thing but it is just a reminder that New Yorkers are, in the end, true-blue Americans.
I have a liberal friend who is now in very bad shape because he donated so much of his time in cleaning up Ground Zero.
In more ways than one. I read it as one-world, trade center. And that may be truer than we know.

Perhaps you are not aware that the land on which the original towers stood is now 'hallowed' land that contains the ashes of many 911 victims, many of whom were incinerated in the devastation. Would you feel the same way if the local government wanted to erect a building on the grave of a close family member?

Thanks so much for posting that gorgeous photo. In the last few years in September, when I’ve driven though the Holland Tunnel to my home in NJ, I’ve seen that incredible view. Breathtaking and terrible - all at the same time.
