What a terrible story.

Things like that don't happen every day in the U.S. Forest Service.

Wonder if the ranger stumbled onto some pot fields or something?

Oh-oh; this is definietly not good.

A missing hiker’s body was found dead up on Mt.Rainier a couple weeks ago. Because he was an orthodox Jew, no autopsy was performed. It is believed that the man died of hypothermia, yet his body was heavily bruised. His family was very, very opposed to an autopsy and demanded his body, which was flown to Israel and buried in Jerusalem.

Now this murder of a Ranger. It isn’t safe to hike anymore.

Interesting post. I’m assuming either a nutbag or a pot farmer. Prayers for the Ranger.

No, more likely. And illegal elk kill, given the time of year.

Where was the judge that prohibited the autopsy at the time of this shooting?

The pos is on foot now but with a rifle. The officer leaves a 4 and a 2 year old. It would be hard for me to just arrest the pos but then there are reasons I never wanted a career in law enforcement. Prayers for the trackers.

I wonder if the ranger was shot with an Obamagun from Fast+Furious.

Not likely, as the entire park is under several feet of snow.

It is pretty late in the season to be a pot farmer.

Was just out hiking & camping in a Nation Forest this past weekend.

The only people we saw on the trail (near the trail) during the weekend was a group of hunters drifting across our front. Since they were slightly ahead of us we gave them the right of way and informed them of what trail we were taking. We were clear so we all parted with a friendly wave.

I don’t know about the locaion of the judge; most likely Olympia.

But one of the officials in the investigation was not happy with the deceased man’s family. This official wanted an autopsy done, believing the circumstances behind the death suspect.

This latest icident reinforces that suspicion.

it’s been legal since Feb 2010 to carry a loaded firearm in a national park if you have a permit to do so. Does anyone believe that a law abiding citizen was ever any worry in the first place? Forbid guns in the Parks, will not the criminals still do whatever damage they choose? I wouldn’t want to go hiking without my pistol. Just dumb not to be able to protect yourself from whatever and whoever.

When I lived in Washington State, my 12 acres of land and house backed up to a 1000 acre State forest land. There was an old logging road there blocked by a locked gate. People were constantly breaking the lock on the gate and driving back into the 1000 acres. One man had a trailer back there where he kept mean dogs tethered as protection. The state DNR would do nothing to keep these intruders out.

From time to time, we’d hear gun shots back there at midnight. No Sheriff’s deputy would go back to investigate, nor did I blame them. We were moving to another state, and my husband’s tools were stolen from a detached garage the night he left. That and a can of “gas”. Nobody would investigate, even when I pointed out that the “gas” was really diesel, and a car was left disabled on the logging road a short distance from the gate. They just gave me a report number for the insurance company claim.

My house and land were beautiful and ethereal, but I was glad to move. My house eventually was sold to the State for a ranger station — the fanciest ranger station in the whole USA. I venture no other ranger station has such an elegent (or expensive) chandelier in the entry hall!
