Gingrich: 'I feel Romney-boated'
Ap-(Pravda) ^ | 1-1-12 | S.McCafterty

Posted on 01/01/2012 4:40:23 PM PST by VinL

Struggling to reverse a slide in his standing, Republican presidential contender Newt Gingrich said Sunday he'd been "Romney-boated" in Iowa and suggested his GOP rival would buy the presidency if he could.

The sharp words against Mitt Romney, a multimillionaire many times over who is in strong contention to win Iowa, come two days before voters here weigh in on the Republican field. It was part of a stepped-up effort by Gingrich to contrast himself with Romney, and the candidate said he would adopt an even more aggressive strategy when the race moves to New Hampshire, the former Massachusetts governor's backyard.

Gingrich's nautical attack was a reference to a 2004 TV ad campaign by a group called the "Swiftboat Veterans for Truth" that bloodied Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. This year, Gingrich has faced an onslaught of negative TV advertisements by a group aligned with Romney.

Asked Sunday whether he felt that he had been "swiftboated," Gingrich replied, "I feel Romney-boated."

It was his second swipe of the day at the Republican frontrunner.

Speaking to reporters after attending morning Mass at the St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines, Gingrich said the amount Romney will eventually spend on his various campaigns will rival the spending of billionaire New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"Romney would buy the election if he could," Gingrich said.

“Asked Sunday whether he felt that he had been “swiftboated,” Gingrich replied, “I feel Romney-boated.””

“Romney boated” is different than being “swift boated”. This thread and the one on the Sarah Palin being VP certainly has tested the reading comprehension skills of many here on Free Republic. It is quite obvious there are many on here who cannot understand plain English. GO NEWT!

“Romney ran last time. It was his turn. McCain ran the time before that. It was his turn...”

Exactly right. The RINO establishment determines who is next in line to run for President. If anyone dares to go against them they get the treatment Newt et al has got in Iowa. Us peons are supposed to bend over and follow orders from the RINOs.

I find your argument flawed for two reasons. First, it is a false dichotomy - there are other choices besides Mr. Gingrich and Mr. Obama, especially this early in the race. Second, I really hope repeated betrayal of one's most intimate human relationships (i.e. marriage) is inconsistent with your definition of "American Character". If what you really meant to claim is that Mr. Gingrich espouses many conservative principles that are better than the principles held by Pres. Obama - I would agree. However, "character" has many more dimensions than conservatism and includes trustworthiness. Some of Mr. Gingrich's choices (his behavior in his divorces, his relationship with Fannie and Freddie) cause me to question his trustworthiness.

McCain beat Romney with the help of the MSM and the Democrat Party. He almost outfoxed them with Sarah Palin—but nothing could stand in the way of the Obama landslide of support from the left and the MSM.

You’re the nit picker liberal while totally avoiding what the topic was about. Start an English site if that’s your fetish. This is about an election. Gearing up to teach the illegals, are you?

It wasn’t a strain. It was easy. It wasn’t the first bone he’s thrown to the libs and it won’t be the last.

“Each of us must do our own homework and then follow our conscience.”

Agreed. I don’t have a link, that’s just what I’ve heard. It is a non-issue for me. I am a Conve3rted Catholic, as is Newt, and trust that his change of heart is a sincere one, as I believe my own to be. Nobody’s perfect, and I believe in Newt’s history as a conservative reformer WHILE IN OFFICE, as opposed to his strays from the reservation as a private citizen. If therre were a perfect, viable candidate I would support him/her, but there’s not.

I enthusiastically support Newt because he has the best program and the is the only one with the balls to take on Obama.

Again, nobody’s perfect. Well, there was that one guy, but we killed him....

“But since he specifically changed it to Romney-boated, he could have meant, “No, I wasn’t Swift-boated because those attacks were true. The attacks from Romney are not true, and therefore I have been Romney-boated.”

But the accusations are true, and therein lies the problem for Newt.

What you said.

Some here do nothing but find fault.

Many seem to find fault, on behalf of Mitt Romney.

Just an observation.

“Romney ran last time. It was his turn. McCain ran the time before that. It was his turn... Dole had run before. It was his turn. Bush had run before. It was his turn. Reagan had run before. It was his turn. Notice a pattern?”

It’s a pattern that sometime works. Worked for Reagan and Bush. Just depends on the circumstances in the world at the time the candidate is running, and the candidate’s ability to get people to coalesce behind him.

Aw, poor little liberal, on the couch with Pelosi. Did hizzums use a BIG CONSERVATIVE WORD and den not know it meanums? Did the nasty conservative actually expect de liddle libewal cwybaby to know his own liddle language?

You make me sick, liberal filth. Back onto the Pelosi couch with you.

You do know what a “couch” is, right, liberal? Like a padded chair, only wide so that two or three liberals like you can sit on it with Nancy at the same time?

Oh, and liberal? I never avoided the topic. The topic was your boy Gingrich’s horrific embrace of John Kerry’s term “Swift-Boating,” adapted to suit Gingrich’s needs. Any CONSERVATIVE candidate would never use such a term because Kerry and liberals like you always implied that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth were LYING about Kerry, when in fact they were simply telling the truth on him.

But you joined in 2005, liberal, so perhaps your history is as bad as your misuse of vocabulary words. What word will you misuse today? “Spell”? “Vote”? I’d say “renege,” but that was yesterday.

Good news, liberal! I have a screen name for you! "Humpty Dumpty." Like you, he thought he would just use words he didn't understand, then claim they happened to mean whatever HE said. (Like how you said most GOP candidates "reneged" on the debate. Of course, the proper use of "renege" requires that one previously had made an agreement, then improperly sought to back out OF the agreement. In other words, you very nearly used the opposite of the proper word. Congratulations, liberal!)

Wow, Gingrich has shown his true face. By saying he was "Romney-boated" he means one of 2 things:

1. The charges that Romney is making are true. (Just as the Swiftboat charges were true.)

2.(What I believe he is saying) The Swiftboat Veterans were liars, just as Romney is a liar. HE IS TAKING KERRY'S SIDE! Is that what conservatives are supposed to do, take Kerry's side and call our veterans liars? I never thought Gingrich was this bad. Do we want a president who will insult veterans like this? Gingrich is outrageous and needs to be called his attack on veterans and siding with Kerry.
