I do not wonder at Ron Paul’s vote to allow homosexuals to serve openly in the military.
Makes me wonder why anyone in a conservative forum would have such a strong crush on the dude though.

It's called 'infiltration'. Just because someone has joined a conservative forum (since 1999 in this case) doesn't mean that person won't change their views or become open to outside influences over time. Things can infiltrate and attack long-held reasonable views until the person become irresolute, then against common understanding.

And I suspect that's what happened here. Take, for instance, this post dated August, 2011:

"I agree completely with Jim Rogers.
The fact is Ron Paul is right about everything.

Not one of the other GOP candidates for the nomination could have written End the Fed. Hell, most of them don't have the brains to even understand it if they were to read it.

All the BS posted here about Ron Paul being a kook is just that "pure BS". Paul scares the hell out of the supporters of the military-industrial complex and of the powerful financial interests who post here.

I'm not throwing my vote away again this time on dumb-a$$es like Dubya, McLame, Romney, Perry, et al who will try to convince us that they're true conservatives when they don't even know the meaning of the word."

To this dated December 27th:

"Prior to this, I would have voted for Newt.

Newt is now dead to me. I would now never vote for Newt.

I thought that one of Newt’s pluses was his intelligence. I was wrong. Newt is an idiot."

Obviously, the second one is a deception, trying to deflect the real truth (self-preservation here on FR). And judging by intervening posts, I'd say there's been a gradual change of thought, or influences (one can find them if one looks) that have eroded his firm sense of conservative values (without going further back it's an assumption on my part they were there to begin with).

In any case, we have a died-in-the-wool Paulbot here...
