2012 Iowa Caucus Live Thread
Iowa GOP ^ | 1.3.12 | Free Vulcan

Posted on 01/03/2012 8:08:24 AM PST by Free Vulcan

Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.

Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.

We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.

My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:

Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1

Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.

Thanks for the hug fatima, but the only thing better than troll and moderate zots tonight would be a bunch of child porn pictures falling out of Mitten's coat pocket tonight while live on the podium!

Romney has to be running scared now. Conservatism wiped him up. Conservatives won 53+% of the raw total and when you throw out the meaningless Paul stink kook vote, conservatism 70+ percent of the real vote.

I doubt he’s an engineer either (the old joke: you know you’re an engineer if you can do advanced calculus in your head but cannot do simple arithmetic).

I’m not pro Romney. Just giving my opinion on what I think will happen. So it’s OK to talk up Newt who really isn’t conservative? Or Paul, who is a nutcase?

I really hate what is happening on FR. For 14 years now, this is the site I come to every day to get the real scoop on things. And now we are banning folks for discussing things? It’s a shame. Not many truth filled sites left if FR is descending into restricting what can be discussed. I don’t want to see FR become DU, where they ban you if you disagree with “their line”.

Newt has been sick all week, so he’s lacked his usual energy.

I’d be sick too if I went from 1st to 4th in just 3 weeks.

It looks like both Santorum and Romney will exceed the total of Newt+Perry.

You do not understand the abortion issue.
You do not understand abortion politics.

Frankly, you do not know what you are talking about.

The majority of people who VOTE based on the abortion issue vote PROLIFE!

The vast majority of “pro choice” voters are more than willing to vote for a pro lifer!

Also, when you talk about ACTUAL LEGISLATION, the pro life side has majority support for nearly every piece of legislation presented in every State in the Union, and in Congress.

Yeah, those attack ads were brutal and it's disgusting that the same folks who claim to hate those ads, were swayed by them.

So much for so-called “informed” voters.

I met both Newt and Callista in person and her helmet hair needs a redo! She is otherwise very pretty and very gracious and nice.

If he's not the nominee,he sure needs to be Secretary of State with a total free rein.

LOL

Sure.

The guy who’s tied with Romney nationally, leading big in the South......he’s going to drop out. Right.

I’d love to debate that “prediction” with you more, but I’m sure you have to go feed your unicorn.

So true. Santorum is pathetic.

ZOT. I'm glad to see there's a zero tolerance policy in effect for obvious trolls.

FoxNews showed the full-page ad that Newt is going to be running in the Manchester (NH) Union-Leader tomorrow. Yes, Newt is taking the gloves off with regard to Mitt Romney. It's going to be a fun week in New Hampshire (which is practically in my back yard).

Head of Republican party in Iowa says no recount - we will have a declared winner tonight. Right now Santorum is clinging to a 129 vote lead with 93% in. And unlike the nimrod on FoxNews, I can calculate this in my head.

Why didn’t he use all that money to at least get a top three spot in Iowa?

*********************

Because Iowa is meaningless! as is New Hampshire. In the past 30 years, the candidate who has won SC wins the nomination— that’s where one spends the money.

(correcting prior misquote from your post- apologies)

Were both his parents born in the US? Just askin', 'cause I don't know.
