2012 Iowa Caucus Live Thread
Iowa GOP ^ | 1.3.12 | Free Vulcan

Posted on 01/03/2012 8:08:24 AM PST by Free Vulcan

Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.

Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.

We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.

My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:

Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1

Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.

There are plenty of other threads on which to bash libertarians or other imperfect conservatives.

If Ron Paul was just a pro-life libertarian he would be a serious presidential candidate.

But his much-discussed flaws run to some seriously messed-up areas.

The amount of support Ron Paul has makes no sense to me at all.

I always wondered who his supporters are - are they young people who want drugs legalized? Are they dems throwing a wrench into things? I would like to know who they really are.

Perry is polling 5th in Iowa. That comes as no surprise as he is one of the weakest candidates in the race.

I’m still undecided.

So I’ll have to go along with the consensus here on FR....

Best wishes to those folks in Iowa taking part in this caucus today.

I sure DITTO that! God Bless every citizen of Iowa who cares enough to go out and vote for their favorite candidate tonight!

I look forward to our Florida Primary on January 31st, and will be very active this month here in FL in support of my favorite candidate. My favorite happens to be Governor Perry, but I will support whomever wins the nomination to fact Obama in November!

Doing an Iowa Freeper ping here. Please know if you wish to be removed from my ping list to just let me know through FreepMail. Thanks! Jean St.Pete,FL

“I can understand the undecided thing, the field sucks! Only 2 or 3 don’t suck quite and bad as the rest.”

I have to admit there’s a lot in what you say. No one of them stands out and makes you want to crawl over broken glass to go out and support them. However, I think regardless of who the nominee is, come Nov. 6th, there’ll be millions of voters crawling over broken glass and burning coals to vote the CommiePunk out of office.

It will more likely be

1. Santorum

2. Paul
2. Willard

4. Newt but not too far back from Paul & Willard

5. Perry dropping out Wed morn
6. Michele dropping out Wed morn

P.S. If Willard the Pandering Lib or Paul the Racist Wackjob come in 1st, IA becomes a joke to all true conservatives and Tea party supporters in SC AND FL.

Can you imagine the exploding heads that would result from a Palin showing?

Adding to my post for fun.......if Huck and Sarahcuda would of ran INSTEAD of Perry and Bachmann. (And I’m guessing Palin wins Ames while Huck sits out Ames)

It will more likely be

1. Huck by 7 points (not quite as big as last time)
2. Palin (without Bachmann and Perry running)

3. Paul
3. Willard
3. Newt (with no $10 million neg ad blitz against him)

6. Santorum dropping out Wed morn

The Republican convention was brokered as recently as 1952 (OK that's not too recent but it's not unlikely) It is possible that the current slate of candidates do not include the eventual nominee -- No matter how hard the press works to get Newt or Mitt.

Thou doth protest too loudly.

Either Perry really is bottom of the race or an awful lot of people are pushing that line. I’m hoping it’s just the opposition trying to keep Perry down.

One good way for undecideds to pick someone is to look at who Obama really doesn’t want to win. Like Rush says, they’ll always tell you who they’re afraid of. I think Perry and Newt have been hit the hardest.

“Libertarians and conservative have many principles in common. Kindof like Catholics and Protestants. Yet they battle themselves to exhaustion even while the Marxists are destroying them. Very foolish. “

I really must disagree. Aside from some core economic principles, we are miles apart. I was a registered Libertarian at one point. I know whereof I speak.

Conservatism is a three legged stool. The three legs are conservative capitalistic fiscal policy; strong defense; and social issue conservatism.

Libertarians have one of the legs. So, good for them, but who wants to sit on a one-legged stool? Not me.

“Well I hope you find that perfect candidate to support before the Marxists send you off to some gulag.”

Just a tad hysterical, there. I don’t believe there is a perfect candidate. Do you believe Ron Paul is the perfect candidate? I suspect you do.

“There are plenty of other threads on which to bash libertarians or other imperfect conservatives.”

I feel free to criticize all candidates upon their positions and I’m not going to cower before your sense of being offended. Ron Paul is in the caucas as are the other candidates and I’ll criticize them politically as I see fit.
