2012 Iowa Caucus Live Thread
Iowa GOP ^ | 1.3.12 | Free Vulcan

Posted on 01/03/2012 8:08:24 AM PST by Free Vulcan

Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.

Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.

We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.

My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:

Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1

Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.

Perry said he’s going back to TX to reassess; Newt said he’s going on to NH. I would think, while Romney seems to have NH sewn up, Newt would do well to start his campaign to defeat Romney’s negative advertising in NH before heading to SC. It’d be nice if we could combine the pro’s for Newt and Perry into one person.

That should do it. Just rural counties left.

Ok. Lets say Newt got 100,000 votes which represent 13%

50,000 were female, 50,000 were male.
50,000 would be 6.5% of his total female vote,
50,000 would be 6.5% of his male vote.
I don’t see anything wrong with my math.

true but the question that started all this assumed “all things being equal” or half male voters and half female voters. I would bet dollars to donuts that Newt got more male votes then female votes :)

What the heck kind of speech is this supposed to be? Seems like he’s rambling.

Santorum +27 votes.

At what point will people realize that EVERY VOTE really does count?

Agreed. That speech was so boring that I zoned out and missed half of it. Not good. At least he wasn’t sneering.

"Re-assess" is code for "suspend" or in other words, cease running for president.

This is political speak.

Herman Cain had to eventually say those words, too.

It is done incrementally so as to not let too many down too quickly, plus he may have bills to pay off and need to keep the donation function active. Yes, my guess after tonight is the Rick Perry's candidacy is more or less a dead duck.

He's out.

Sounds tasty...I drove across Iowa last week and as usual, hit about handful of Casey’s General Stores - the 7-11 of flyover country but with better coffee and donuts ;-)
