This is the teenager shot dead by police for brandishing a pellet gun in the hallway of his school - posing with a friend holding the 'weapon'.

Jaime Gonzalez, 15, was gunned down because he would not lower the gun which officers believed was a loaded pistol.

---

He said he heard police run down the hallway and yell 'put the gun down,' before several shots were fired.

I read the story. I just no longer trust journalists to get facts straight when it comes to writing about guns.

“Read and study on what exactly is a “pellet gun”...It is REAL...not a toy...A .17cal pellet gun can kill if a person is hit in the “right” place...”

Technically correct but I seriously doubt the cops would have shot him if they knew it was just a pellet gun. Just like lawn darts are a toy but can kill you if they hit in the right place. Not too many people shot brandishing a lawn dart.

I thought all pellet guns, by law, had to have an orange muzzle?

I would have shot him too. He looks malevolent and capable and the pellet gun looks like a conventional firearm.

Just so you know, Pit1 and I were chatting about a traffic stop, not an armed confrontation. =:o)

There are pellet guns selling like crazy that have no orange tip and are indisernable from a distance from the real thing.

The headline looks bad, but I don’t think the cops are to blame on this one.

Yes, in fact the father said that no one in the family gave him the “gun”. And he did not know his son took the “gun” to school.

The mother at least added, “why did he put himself in that situation”.

Sounds like they have had problems with him.

They seem to be making a big deal about not releasing what the boy said to them before he was shot.

It would go to suicide by cop.

I understand you read the story...I was only suggesting people should read and study the ballistics of pellet guns.
Pellet guns are lethal and as far as I know, aren’t identified as toys with the orange muzzle. They will fire
a 35 grain .177cal projectile at 880 ft per sec with 25.4 ft lbs of energy...That can penetrate 6-7 inches of animal flesh..

* Shortly before the confrontation, Jaime had walked into a classroom and punched a boy in the nose for no apparent reason, Rodriguez said.”
Sounds like he brought the gun to scool to intimidate others. *

This incident probably saved at least one innocent life and ended a lot of future misery.
The story behind this kid looks like he was far worse than useless. Give me a gamer that never works a day in his life over a violent thug or gang member. They are many, many notches below worthless....

A gangster who was going to knock up a number of young women in the coming years for which we would have to pay for.

On many levels the taxpayers saved some $$$.

To harsh? Not from what I’ve seen when it comes to these types of punks....

“Toy guns now have the orange tips on them to give police a visual cue as to the mature of the gun. Trained to look for the orange tip, an officer would, having not seen such, move on the the determination that it was a real gun.”

That is a trick bag too. If an offender -was- going to go cop hunting, painting an orange ring around the muzzle might give the offender the first shot.

"He looks like a wannabe gang member."

That's the conclusion I have reached as well. Punch another kid in the face for no apparent reason, then go out and brandish a "gun" at the police.

I'd say he achieved his goal. Got street cred now.

Again....A pellet gun IS a REAL gun...not a toy......It uses air pressure as propellent instead of explosion created pressure....

lots of older bb/pellet guns out there...none of the older ones had an orange tip(I could be wrong but I think those orange tip laws are regional not national).

go to any gun show....they are for sale there along side the real thing....
