After reading this thread, all I can say is, "Good luck with all that."

We have to start somewhere. I understand a lot of the points made by posters on this thread. But we can't ignore reality. I look at the pie charts on what's going out vs. what's coming in to the federal budget. There isn't enough money to fund all the "promises" made to this generation, to past generations, to future generations. It's no different than unfunded pensions/insurance promises that took GM down.

and now we're paying for them, as well.

Just look at how much hemming and hawing occur, when a Republican merely suggests reducing the rate of spending increases, which liberals would refer to as a "spending cut."
