A 14-year-old admitted during a hearing Thursday that he caused a stranger's death by hitting him without provocation. But the teen, who is not being identified because he is a juvenile, denied that he laughed about the assault as detectives questioned him after his arrest. Witnesses said the teen yelled something to the effect of "What did you say to me?" and got out of the car. One witness said he shouted at the teen that Gregory hadn't said anything to him and that the teen should leave Gregory alone. But the witnesses said the teen -- who is over 6 feet tall and weighs about 175 pounds -- hit Gregory once in the mouth. Gregory, who was 5-foot-1 and weighed 106 pounds, fell and struck his head on the pavement in the 1700 block of Vaughn Boulevard. He died two days later at John Peter Smith Hospital.

"The medical examiner ruled Gregory's death a homicide, caused by a severe closed-head injury from blunt-force trauma, Groom said."

Lemme guess, there are family members who swear that “he is such a good boy.”

Furthermore, White said, the victim was intoxicated, which may have contributed to the severity of his injury and meant the difference between simple assault and manslaughter.

Well, that settles it, it was his own damn fault he got murdered huh?

In most of tough guy history, this would have made you a laughing stock (to pick on him, not the killing), this is a true animal, this is the kind of guy who would seek out the cripple or the grandma, not avoid them.

"The autopsy report will show that Mr. Gregory had a blood-alcohol level of 0.17," he said. "Not to diminish that a life was lost, but it's a mitigating factor. If he was not intoxicated, we wouldn't be where we are."

Unfriggin believable!

Far cry from the days when wrapping a house or knocking and running away was “living on the edge”. This society is in such a screwed up mess and what’s this about Gregory being drunk and contributing to his own death? Did I read that right? OK you punks out there, be sure and ask someone you’re about to assault if they’re drunk before you waylay them....play nice now. Sheesh!!!

Reading the whole article I almost choked when I read where they said he was a good boy with a bright future. They also seemed to imply that the victim was partially to blame for he had been drinking.

In a just world these kind of characters would just be shot down like a rabid dog. Make sure it is the right guy then put him down. He does not deserve to live one more second.

“Charles Bronson” (or, Paul Kersey, if you will) is us, plain and simple. The question that must be faced is simply whether one is willing to take the law into his own hands to punish the evildoers...and avoid getting caught in the process.

If the victim was my child, I would burn down whatever building this perp was in so as to visit justice upon him.

“White said that such circumstances shouldn't lead to more jail time for the 14-year-old, whom he described as a clean-cut eighth-grader with a positive future.

“We're hoping for something other than incarceration,” he said. “He's not incarceration material, and that would only make a bad situation worse.””

America in the age of Obama. A thug who kills someone just for fun with no provocation is described as a “clean cut eighth-grader with a positive future”.

Wake up people. This is what our country is turning into.

Sometimes it is better for one to remain in jail where one is safe.

There have been cases where murder victims family members have actually tried to bail a perp out. I don't think it was in the spirit of forgiveness either

"Lemme guess, there are family members who swear that “he is such a good boy.”

And a "Honor Student" at MLK High School.
And he went to church and sang in the choir too.
But he got with the wrong crowd.
But this incident came from no where.
And was trying to turn his life around when it happened.
And your're racist if you dare question anything about this kid's past or his behavior.
And he didnt doo nufin.

Funny how no one even questions the skin color of the murderer.

It is an automatic.

If he was such an angel - why was the 14 year old in 8th grade? I wonder how stupid one needs to be to be held back in a majority minority school?

White called his client's actions reckless but unintentional and asked that the teen be allowed to stay at his mother's home -- where he is the oldest of about 10 children

Now, can anybody tell me what's missing in this picture?
