White House threw secret 'Alice in Wonderland' bash during recession

It was the tea party the Obamas just couldn’t resist.

A White House “Alice in Wonderland” costume ball — put on by Johnny Depp and Hollywood director Tim Burton — proved to be a Mad-as-a-Hatter idea that was never made public for fear of a political backlash during hard economic times, according to a new tell-all.

“The Obamas,” by New York Times correspondent Jodi Kantor, tells of the first Halloween party the first couple feted at the White House in 2009. It was so over the top that “Star Wars” creator George Lucas sent the original Chewbacca to mingle with invited guests.

The book reveals: any official announcement of the glittering affair — coming at a time when Tea Party activists and voters furious over the lagging economy, 10-percent unemployment rate, bank bailouts and Obama’s health-care plan were staging protests — quickly vanished down the rabbit hole.

However, the White House made certain that more humble Halloween festivities earlier that day — for thousands of Washington-area schoolkids — were well reported by the press corps.

Then the Obamas went inside, where an invitation-only affair for children of military personnel and White House administrators unfolded in the East Room.

Tim Burton decorated (WH Dining Room) “in his signature creepy-comic style. His film version was about to be released, and he had turned the room into the Mad Hatter’s tea party, with a long table set with antique-looking linens, enormous stuffed animals in chairs, and tiered serving plates with treats like bone-shaped meringue cookies,” reports the book, which The Post purchased at a Manhattan bookstore.

“Fruit punch was served in blood vials at the bar. Burton’s own Mad Hatter, the actor Johnny Depp, presided over the scene in full costume, standing up on a table to welcome everyone in character.”

It’s painfully and disgustingly obvious that the GOP candidates running for President don’t have the gonads to expose any of the outrageous policies, appointments, vacations, Executive Orders spitting on our Constitution, and disdain for the American people exhibited by the One.

In my opinion, there are no gonads in the Republican Party anywhere. They’re all fiddling while Rome burns.

There's no outrage when there should be about the seemingly daily wastage of America's finances, celebrated right at the White House.

Obama says ALL will have to sacrifice with budget

Snip: He says the budget will reflect the harsh reality of the worst
economic crisis since the Great Depression, one that he inherited
from his predecessor, George W. Bush.

Faced with recession and a trillion-dollar deficit, members of
both parties will have to sacrifice some worthy priority. He includes himself in that group.

The GOP could run with this. But how long before Obama's protectors in the media dig up some similar, or at least seemingly similar, situation where the GOP acted the same way? You know they will try to do this, just like they are doing with "Fast and Furious" right now (NPR's "Bush did it, too" story). Frankly, I'm equally disgusted with all of Washington, D.C. as I am with the Obama Admin. That city needs a serious flood to wash away all the scum and barnicles.

There is tons of stuff like this to come out about this truly dysfunctional administration.

Republicans are smart to wait until near the election to hit them with it.

President Obama’s Halloween Message

White House, October 31, 2011

Good morning.

Nearly 500 years ago, the people of Scotland set aside this evening as All-Hallows-Even, that is, the night before All Hallows Day. Since then, the ancestors of Americans have looked for inspiration in the giving and receiving of treats on this night.

Americans have long enjoyed dressing up in festive costumes at parties or to usher children from door to door to “trick or treat”. Nothing could be more American!

We honor this tradition that reminds us how spreading wealth raises the prospects of families who are struggling in these hard times.

The simple message shines like a beacon in then night: to each according to his or her need from those who have more than enough.

That is why Americans who have done well, myself included, should be able to chip in a little bit so that those with empty bags might be satisfied.

While only a few American’s are active in a coven, or choose to take part in Wiccan midnight rituals, or form rock circles or pentagrams in praising our Mother Earth, we can all join in sympathy with the values of receiving as much free treats possible in the generous spirit of Halloween!

It’s going to take bold and immediate action to confront this economic crisis that we face. That’s why I’m committed to transform America into a place where more of us enjoy the wealth that has for too long been horded by the top one percent.

Earlier this year, I announced my National Health Care and Economic Recovery Plan that will provide low or no cost care to everyone who asks while at the same time reducing the deficit and costs over all! Our plan will create or save 7.5 million new jobs, reduce the sea level and carbon emissions while making the investments we need to fuel long-term economic growth, stability and a greener planet.

But this Halloween, we are reminded that the renewal of our economy won’t come from policies and plans alone - it will take the hard work, innovation, dedication to the cause of re-distribution, and strength of the American people.

Like returning home from a costume party, it will mean taking off the masks that have hidden our true potential.

It is a testament to our national character that so many Americans this Halloween are giving away treats to any child who asks. None will be left empty bagged. It is this spirit that binds us together as one American family - the belief that we rise and fall as one people; that we want that American Dream not just for ourselves, but for each other.

That’s the spirit we must summon with powerful incantations as we make a new beginning for our nation. Times are tough. There are difficult months ahead. But we can transform our nation into a place we can all be proud of.

So this evening - with one heart, and one voice, the American people can give thanks to God, — Gaia, Thor, Anubis or what ever male or female deity or higher power you may worship — that a new and brighter day is yet to come.

Thank you and may God Bless America!

“Strangely appropriate.”

We’ve Landed in Alice’s Wonderland

By Mark Hyman on 3.12.10/ American Spectator:

“There exists in Washington, D.C., today, a political climate that considers business evil, hard work to be without virtue, and individual liberty and freedom a plague that must be eliminated.

Time after time, government bureaucrats, politicians, academia, major news organizations and the cultural elite demonstrate themselves to be out of step and out of touch with the American people and their values.

Consider the following juxtapositions.” http://spectator.org/archives/2010/03/12/weve-landed-in-alices-wonderla

I agree, except I'd change "flood" to flush.

Uh, no.

All Hallows Eve was a night to ward off demons and tricksters. The real celebration should be for All Saints Day, Nov 1st. (”The Day of the Dead” in Mexico). The celebration is religious, not secular, and certainly not marxist/communist.
