What did Callista put in Newt Gingrichs Bosco yesterday?
We all knew he was coming hard after Mitt with his newfound cache of funny money. But who knew he was planning to become a suicide bomber? His office in D.C. is on K Street the K apparently stands for Kamikaze. He is now out Ron Paul-ing Ron Paul himself.
I had him on my radio show last night before the polls in New Hampshire closed, and I tried to get Newt to explain whats gotten into him. He seemed surprised that some people might be taken aback by his new Barack Obama-like theories on how much money is too much. Like, $60 million on a $30 million investment thats OK, Newt explained at length yesterday. Ninety million thumbs up. But by God, if you make $180 million on $30 million, a six-fold profit, well, whoa Nellie.
Despite being the smartest guy in the room (just ask him), Newt must not know much Latin. Specifically, caveat emptor. Let the buyer beware. No pain, no gain. For every job Bain Capital destroyed, how many did it create?
I asked Newt, werent you angry when the press went after you for your $500,000 line of credit at Tiffanys?
Thats completely different from this.
When Newt got into the fight last year, many suspected he wasnt really a serious candidate, that he was just trying to freshen up the aging Newt brand, to jack up his speaking fees. I guess not. The Club for Growth called his comments about Mitt disgusting.
The only group that might want him as a speaker now is the Occupy Wall Street Alumni Association.
What do you suppose the Union Leader thinks of its Newt endorsement now? First he doesnt even show up in the Granite State for 15 days after he gets the nod, and then in the closing hours he morphs into a butch Ariana Huffington.
How about Sheldon Adelson, the casino billionaire from Dorchester who just wrote Newts super PAC a check for $5 million? Does he have too much money, Newt?
Sheldon Adelson built his own businesses from scratch. Hes battled the unions in Nevada because he wanted to keep paying the health insurance of some of his workers after he had to lay them off.
I dont know the details, but Im guessing the Nevada unions think Adelson is a regular ... Mitt Romney. Adelsons got, oh, 100 times as much money as Mitt.
Newts been complaining about the Mitt super PAC ads allegedly lying about him. Yet his PAC has got a spot up on YouTube with some old lady saying she lost her house because of Mitt and he has 15 houses.
Mitt has two houses and one condo. I asked him yesterday after I saw the spot.
Then they should take that ad down, Newt said, Pontius Pilate-like.
Ayn Rand would be shocked. Ditto, Milton Friedman. And what good is it doing Newt? The early exit polls last night showed him in fifth place. To paraphrase Harry S Truman, If you give the people a choice between a Democrat and a Democrat, theyll vote for the Democrat every time.
Somebody said yesterday on the Internet that Rick Santorum is wearing a sweater vest, Rick Perry a hunting vest, and now Newt has put on a suicide vest. That about sums it up.
Howie Carr list ping. Wed. column
Either the good doctor from Texas or maybe "China" Huntsman, if he seems to be getting more traction.
But Mittens? No way!
Oh how I love to hear them squeal when poked! Newt is taking a lot of flax, must be right over the target. This is going to be Epic!
Sour grapes. Newt is taking flak - so he must be over the target.
The “good doctor” lol...you are delusional.
Conservatives, if they are real, should not be attacking Mittens from the left.
when you put over a quarter of a billion dollars in your pocket from buying, selling and folding companies (that you had broken apart to feast on) in that short of time there are going to be more than a few hard working people that were destroyed in the process even more that just plain were screwed over... hey it’s capitalism everybody gets it.. but some of those images and stories are surely going to come back and bite Mittens in the ass..
Fact is what he did for a living is a cut throat business where a lot of the time you have to make decisions that make your company it’s profits but also puts innocent people out into the cold
if it becomes news that he and his group had ever bought a viable business and broke it up just for the profits(ie Gordon Gekko)it’s going to be bye bye Mitt
The article nails it. Gingrich is acting like a liberal fool.
A lot of flax? A very linen situation.
If Bain Capital gets the magnifying glass, surely Acorn should too? Bain is much more picturesque and dramatic, but Acorn did at least as much harm.
Capitalism has its own karma — if Bain Capital became an outfit known for capriciousness towards its investees, few (except those with no other choice) would want to accept investments from it any more.
Howie Carr is a RomneyBOT who put Deval Patrick in
as Gov. IN Massachusetts, and is now devoted
to a second term of Obama.
Trump/Palin if they force Ronmey on us. Can’t be any worse than Romney.
Howie LOVES Mitt, which I told him a month ago on the air, while he had BOR on his show. HC denied my accusation.
Do you ever listen to him?
wants Obama re-elected?
likes Cadillac Deval?
it’s way to early to be drinking heavily
You’re wasting your time trying to explain the obvious to the people on this forum...I’m done...
Yes, Gingrich wasn’t calling capitalism evil but was pointing out Romney’s hypocrisy and dubious ethics.
Romney goes around talking about himself as having built businesses, presenting himself as a captain of industry (probably hoping people will confuse him with his father), but he was actually involved in a particularly cut-throat part of the investment business that is focused on fast, short-term profits. While some companies that are bought up and picked apart may then later go on to survive and be profitable in another form, that’s not the main objective. And while it is not necessarily immoral or unethical, it is very easy for it to go in that direction.
IIRC, this was a problem back in the 1980s, when certain investors (Buffet?) were buying companies, stripping out their pension plans, and dumping the remains. It is indeed the kind of thing that gives both capitalism and the financial industry a bad name.
It does sound as if Gingrich needs to refocus or clarify the ads, however, because the message that seems to be going out all of a sudden is that Gingrich is opposed to capitalism, which of course is ridiculous and a complete distortion of his position.
You are correct and unfortunately the herd mentality of establishment republicans is winning the day in their trashing of Newt. These practices of Bain (A.K.A. Romney) are not representative of capitalism may have been bordering on fraud but are without a doubt definitely "predatory," "unconscionable" and he has "unclean hands in these takeovers." Does anyone for one-second believe the rat party wasn't aware of this? If so, then conservative and establishment republicans are really being ignorant here! See:
The establishment republicans are doing to Newt what they pulled with every potential successful person or candidate that threatened their boy Mitt Romney: they did it with Sarah Palin, she's "dumb" as a post; they did it with Cain, he's a serial "sexual harasser"; they did it with Perry, a bumbling speaker and "can't think"; and they are doing it now with Newt Gingrich, he's anti-capitalist. Mitt Romney started all this in Iowa when he was loosing in the arena of ideas and started trashing Newt's personal life and now that Newt has struck back with a vengeance, which he absolutely should have, Mitt and the establishment republicans are squealing like the pigs they are!
Again unfortunately, Rush Limbaugh appears has failed to see this tactic and given his support to this circus by failing to emphasize the facts of Bain Capital. It's my understanding, unless I'm mistaken, that Bain did this to 22% of their acquisitions and not just 2 as Rush stipulated. If the 22% is correct, then there is credible evidence of Bain being a predatory firm with Mitt Romney as the main man heading that type of practice. The democrats already knew this and were going to use it! As Rush says all the time ...... "Don't doubt me on this!"
