Get a grip.

And I mean that seriously: get a grip.

EDGAR is the SEC's filing system. When a company files its data it sends it electronically to the SEC's EDGAR database. EDGAR online simultaneously makes it publically available.

There is no illegal preview here.

Romney is a disastrous candidate, but this kind of mentally-disturbed conspiracy theory makes him look good.

It's sickening how morons who falsely claim to be "conservatives" are using Romney as a vehicle for bashing free enterprise.

Get your act together.

Newt is absolutely despicable for this line of attacks. Mittens promoted the radical gay agenda in Mass. He handed out gay marriage licenses like candy when he was NOT required by the court to do so. Go to MassResistance.org and be stunned at what this fraud did up there. He hired John Holdren as a science adviser - the same Holdren who advocated putting "sterilants" in drinking water to control population growth. His wife Ann made a donation to Planned Parenthood in 1994. All of these issues would KILL him in Conservative, Evangelical S.C. THERE IS SO MUCH TO BLITZ MITTENS ABOUT. Why on Earth go after him using Occupy Wall St. propaganda? It is despicable.

How EDGAR works and what Edgar Online does.

Edgar is the SEC database that collects company filings (annual and quarterly reports, proxy statements, etc.)

Edgar Online is a public company that collects the filings from Edgar (the SEC) and indexes, groups, parses the filings for ease of use.

You can go directly to the SEC website and get the same exact filing without using Edgar Online. If you don’t want to use the SEC website or Edgar Online, 10K Wizard (MorningStar) will do the same thing. There are probably others.

Edgar Online is not getting company filings before they are posted to the SEC website. At best Edgar Online gets the filing micro seconds after they are posted by the SEC.

In summary, the premise of this whole post is dumb. Edgar and Edgar Online are not the same thing.

Is this possibly the answer and I really don’t know: They didn’t invest in it, they bought it... that seems to be a difference. And Bain currently give millions and millions of dollars to democrats... in very large amounts..

Plus the fact, let’s say Newt did let loose this torrent of ignorance, and I am not sure I agree he did, then why wasn’t the republican party’s response - and all the conservative media’s response - a measured, enlightening, teaching response - along the lines that capitalism, like any human endeavor, can be a vehicle for human failings, but on the whole it has been the greatest enterprise system for freedom liberty yada yada...

A lot of people supporting Newt and voting for Newt in their first election, could have learned a lot from that.. including me..

Instead it was oh don’t attack the beloved republican party and their capitalist principles - a lot of that coming from people who spend 90% of their professional lives badmouthing the party..

Nicki Haley - who betrayed the Tea Party in SC, out there saying, that she wanted to defend the republican party because they stood for principles of capitalism...

There was not one single word from the establishment said that was negative about rogue capitalism and they missed a real opportunity in my estimation to teach and not to look so out of touch..

Newt per norm was taken totally out of context... this whole thing, especially rush, has got me so upset, I cried myself to sleep last night... Newt didn’t do anything wrong.. everybody jumped all over him and NOT ONE PERSON defended him in the conservative media...

INSTEAD what did they do: you now have people

Bain Capital said Friday that it has invested $12 million in Edgar Online...

"And I appreciate the business. Bugs for Mitt."

Okay, so I was wrong... I seriously spent the morning at my computer trying to figure out why everyone was defending Romney in the republican party... and I still don’t understand it. I didn’t know the premise of those links was incorrect because, yes, I am ignorant about economic thought... and I have been trying to figure this stuff out on my own because I am in the medical profession and I don’t encounter much economic expertise in my daily life... So now, when I hear someone else make the same argument, I will be able to tell them why it was wrong... thank you for that. Only I will be a little kinder when I explain it to them... :)

“They didn’t invest in it, they bought it”

They DID NOT buy it. They own no common equity in Edgar Online, which, as pointed out above, is not the same thing as EDGAR.

Boy, this is tinfoil hat stuff.

Newt is dead to me. I am finished with this fat lifetime bureaucrat who was one of only 18 Republicans (all the rest Rockefeller types) who voted for the Dept. of Education in 1978 (it only passed by 5 votes). He was best friends with Alvin Toffler and promoted his book that called for the scrapping of the U.S. Constitution and its replacement with a more "efficient" world government. And HE is going to lecture us on conservatism? Newt is NOT a conservative. He says FDR was the best Prez of the 20th Century. He calls himself a "realpolitik Wilsonian". Woodrow Wilson? Do I really need to go into him?

Newt himself served on the board of LBO firm Fortsmann Little, which is Bain Capital on steroids, which makes him a total hypocrite on this "vulture capitalism" stuff. So if he became the nominee, Obama would use these same sorts of attacks on HIM. All pressure should come to bear for this phony to leave the race, and join with Bachmann, Perry and Cain to endorse Santorum - our last hope at derailing the vile Mittens.

Newt is disgusting for unleashing a torrent of ignorance of venture capitalism among conservatives. And Romney isn’t even with Bain any longer. WTF?

Dang that Newt, Obama and his Chicago political machine were probably not going to say a thing about Bain Capital since he's not there any more. Much like Haliburton would never be an issue for Dick Cheney since he had left there years before becoming Vice President.

Oh, and Occupy Wall Street is just a coincidence.

THAT is your rationale? That whatever criticism OBAMA would use is ok for his fellow Republicans to use, no matter how it lies, distorts and betrays our principles? How about hitting Romney on his support of the gay agenda and abortion? How about hitting Obama as the candidate of Wall St. - receiving more from Goldman Sachs than any candidate in history? what disgusts me is that these attacks show the "let's all get along...the enemy is Obama" Newt was a total fraud. Now he is out for revenge and since he is not a conservative, he doesn't give a fig whether his attacks on free market capitalism hurts what we as conservatives stand for.

So, Mitt Romney's Bain Capital has the ability see and then monitor every company's SEC Filing information even before the SEC sees it.

The database is freely available to the public via the Internet (Web or FTP).

If it's freely available to the public, what's the big deal? I don't like Romney because of his belief in big government. Trying to portray him as dishonest seems, well, dishonest.

Saying people who are against predator capitalism are against all capitalism or its principles is like saying people who are anti-abortion are against medicine (a wise freeper said that this morning - it made an impression on me, but I don’t remember their name)

Well, yea. In part, its called vetting.

Romney quickly showing he cannot handle criticism. In the last few days, instead of laying out a clear defense of Bain Capital he used the argument that its no different than what Obama did with General Motors. So now we have a moral equivalence argument set up by Mitt that takes away any real chance of confronting Obama about government take-overs in the general election.

Just for the record, did you protest when Mitt was sinking $3.5 million into negative lies and distortions about Newt in Iowa? I've seen those ads, and frankly I will NEVER support Romney. Not now. Not never.

There is nothing "wise" about this at all. First of all the "When Romney Came to Town" video is filled with lies, as this conservative blogger pointed out yesterday. And also, what the hell is "predator capitalism"? Being too successful? Who defines what free market activities are permissable, or whether people have made "too much money"? Newt Gingrich? Elizabeth Warren. Frankly, I don't see much difference right now between them.

One of the linked articles made the point that Bain got to see the filings beforehand because part of their service was to help the companies formulate, write and develop their filings in preparation for filing them... and so, of course, were privy to them ahead of time; that has not been totally debunked in my opinion. However, may I please offer you my generic heartfelt apology to the people on this thread whom I offended with my economically-challenged uninformed post:

“Okay, so I was wrong... I seriously spent the morning at my computer trying to figure out why everyone was defending Romney in the republican party... and I still don’t understand it. That video is aimed at the intelligence level of an 8th grader. It’s sad to see so many Freepers fall for it. My sense is that as the truth comes out, this propaganda hit job will backfire.
