The Thelma & Louise Party
American Spectator ^ | 13 jan 2012 | David Catron

When did the GOP go from being merely stupid to downright suicidal?

In the final scene of Thelma & Louise, when Detective Hal Slocumb realizes that the two desperate demoiselles are about to drive off the edge of the Grand Canyon, he runs after them in a futile attempt to stop their senseless suicide. When I first watched that scene, twenty years ago, my primary emotion involved the tragic loss of that '66 Thunderbird. Now I think I finally understand the impotent despair the film's screenwriter, Callie Khouri, was attempting to convey when she sent Slocumb on his hopeless sprint. Witnessing the GOP contests in Iowa and New Hampshire has been much like watching Louise stomp on the accelerator of that beautiful car. It's so easy to foresee the slow-motion descent into the electoral abyss and so seemingly impossible to prevent what should be an unnecessary tragedy.

I have often imagined what the world would have been like if Geena and Susan were actually in the car as it went over the cliff. One of the worst premised movies of all time.

Basically you could have named it Girls and Made of Sugar and Spice and everything Nice, and All Men Suck.

“’Now, in retaliation for these damaging attacks — which were by and large accurate — a pro-Gingrich Super PAC has produced an attack video that portrays Romney as a Wall Street parasite of the worst kind.”

More leftist propaganda from the “so called” right wing media.

Romney and Bain Captial are parasites of the worst kind is a factual statement.

I never saw that movie. Two women were trying to jump the Grand Canyon in a T-Bird? They didn’t learn anything from Evil Knievel? You know, they should’ve used a new car with air bags. They coulda had a sequel. THELMA AND LOUISE PART II: BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES WITH AIRBAGS - featuring Nancy Pelosi as an airbag.

Newt is really damaged goods, and Romney is Obama’s and the ruling class of the GOP’s turkey, IMHO.

That being the case, Newt needs to take out Romney for Santorum, IMHO, or it will be Romney or a brokered convention.

When Thelma and Louise drove off the cliff; it was a perfect metaphor, for what was happening inside the 'feminist movement' . Their suicide; at least signaled, the beginning of the 'end'.

And yes; the determination and the stubbornness of current GOP/RNC is acting out it's own self-defeating metaphor. A shot in both feet; so to speak.

Such willful ignorance perped by so many Repubs. Sad; but true.

At first I thought the article was about the RINO immigration policy. Non-white immigrants always vote majority Democrat. This may be the last presidential elections where Republicans, demographically, even have a chance.

I thought and think that supposedly radical feminist movie was one of the most unintentionally hilarious movies I’ve ever seen. Indeed, it was so good that way that the Taliban should have gotten a license, copied it, dubbed it into their language, and repeatedly shown it in all their madrases just to prove the Prophet’s wisdom about women. After all, what better shows it than two “liberated” women escaping from their humane male keepers for only a few hours who manage to screw up their lives so badly that their only alternative is suicide?

Now who could possibly seek to profit from mainlining - and group enforcing - that meme... hmmm... lemme think...

Romney is not even close to 5% of the delegates he needs. This thing is not over, not by a long shot. Keep the faith.
