Newt can quit first.

You're not rational.

There’s only one way to find out. We are in the fight of our lives for our country. I am deeply concerned about Obama getting another four years. The only thing I can think to do is support the best candidate. That’s all we can do.

Newt would be happy with finishing second if it means Romney wins.

You're not rational.

Then why are you celebrating a Poll showing Newt losing when previous polls have had him ahead?

Like I said, the thing that pleases Newt fans the most is any poll showing Santorum leading, not Newt ahead.

But I guess were supposed to not be concerned with the fact that Newt can’t break 25 percent in SC.

Eugh - losing, not leading. A poll showing Santorum losing.

Call me when Newt tops 25 in SC.

I'm going to refrain from making a snarky reply to that statement, but just let me say this. All of the recent polls show that Newt has real staying power, which isn't the result of million dollar ad campaigns, or huge slip-ups on Romney's part.

Going into South Carolina, he's within striking distance of Romney, even though he was shot to pieces by Romney's negative ads three weeks ago, and watched as Romney gained momentum with 'wins' in Iowa and New Hampshire.

This is why you're seeing Newt supporters expressing optimism and hope right now.

If Mitt was as strong as some want to think he is, Newt would have been destroyed over the last three weeks, and would now be rolling around at the bottom of the polls (like Perry is). But, he's not. Another 5% increase in his polling numbers would put him even with Mitt, going into South Carolina. And there's every reason for Newt supporters to think that he'll do that, given the improvement in his numbers.

Like I said, the thing that pleases Newt fans the most is any poll showing Santorum leading, not Newt ahead.

Like I said, you're not rational.

“All of the recent polls show that Newt has real staying power”

Sure. Staying power to stay in second.

“which isn’t the result of million dollar ad campaigns, or huge slip-ups on Romney’s part.”

This is South Carolina. It’s not Iowa, where the excuse was that he didn’t care about it. Or New Hampshire, where the excuse was that he didn’t care about that one either.

Why isn’t he blowing out Romney in South Carolina, since supposedly that is where he has an advantage? I don’t want to hear “it’s not possible”, because he was doing just that, a month ago.

Now you’re happy that he’s a comfortable second behind Romney? I just don’t get that!

“Another 5% increase in his polling numbers would put him even with Mitt, going into South Carolina. And there’s every reason for Newt supporters to think that he’ll do that, given the improvement in his numbers.”

I think he’s hit his cap. I’ve lost hope that he can beat Mitt, since he crashed and burned in December. The numbers just don’t show anything to suggest that he’s going to set the world on fire.

Conservatives, by and large, are supporting Santorum. Newt can’t get their support because he’s a moderate. Most of Newt’s support is coming from Moderates, not the Conservatives. Him being stuck at 25 percent in SC is evidence that he’s not going to get the votes that he needs to win.

We need to back the guy who’s already got the conservative votes in his back pocket - Santorum.

If Gingrich can not win SC by 8-10 points, his fundraising, which is on life support now, will dry up up completely.

Newt has a sugar daddy in Adelson-— that guy could spend 20 years in the Sahara, and his money wouldn’t dry up. -:)

You sound like an emotional liberal. Knock that off and engage your analyzer.

Given what's happened over the last three weeks, Newt should be all but out of the race, but he's not. He's actually polling close behind Romney, which for most thinking people, is a GOOD thing.

It means he's got honest support, which isn't going to erode away because he lost a couple of inconsequential races to Romney, or got slammed with millions of dollars worth of negative campaign ads.

In case you hadn't noticed, his poll numbers are IMPROVING.

On the other hand, your candidate's numbers are reverting to trend, which shows that he doesn't have a solid, un-erodable base of support. Have you not noticed that he's now in 4th place behind Ron Paul?

Conservatives, by and large, are supporting Santorum.

What? Santorum is running a full 10 points behind Newt. Did you get that? A full 10 points. And you think that Newt should drop out and endorse Santorum? Why? To make you happy?

LOL. You're not rational.

Newt should quit and endorse Santorum. Newt’s anti-capitalist attack proves he shouldn’t be president.

I am glad he’s hanging in there. If he gets the nomination, he’ll try to do another sweep campaign, like the contract with America. A winning message with everyone sending a unified message.

You’ve got it, greeneyes! Newt wasn’t my 1st choice, but I objectively support him for the very insightful reason you just articulated. Good on you.

Forgive me, I backed Cain. I’m used to seeing 20+ point leads in South Carolina.

“Given what’s happened over the last three weeks, Newt should be all but out of the race”

He was the frontrunner before. I remember that very well because everyone was saying that Newt was the front runner and that we needed to get behind him because only he could win.

He is, basically out of the race now. South Carolina is his last stand. Win or go home, same as with Thompson. If he does as well as Thompson does, then he’ll be out and we can get behind Santorum.

“He’s actually polling close behind Romney, which for most thinking people, is a GOOD thing.”

Uh, no. He’s supposed to be beating Romney, not behind. He needs to win here. Romney is pushing to get rid of Newt from the race.

“It means he’s got honest support, which isn’t going to erode away”

Like it did in December and earlier this month? He was at 36 percent nationally at one point. Now he can’t muster 25 percent in South Carolina? Where did all that solid support go? 36 nationally translates to Romney style wins in SC as Romney did in NH.

“he lost a couple of inconsequential races to Romney”

Um, you mean the fact that he finished 4th in Iowa and 5th in New Hampshire? ‘Inconsequential races’. Wow.

“his poll numbers are IMPROVING.”

Uh, no they aren’t. He’s been at 24 percent with Romney consistantly 5+ points ahead of him.

“your candidate’s numbers are reverting”

Hrm? Santorum was at 2 percent in South Carolina. He’s at 15 now. That’s a surge. Sure, it’s not 24, but it’s not 36 either.

“Have you not noticed that he’s now in 4th place behind Ron Paul?”

Yeah, and he’s catching up to Newt. This is bad news. Newt can’t win with Romney at 30 and Paul at 20.

“What?”

Yes, that’s the truth. Santorum is polling 2x what Newt is among self-described conservatives. Newt’s support comes primarily from Independents and moderates. Check out the exit polls in Iowa and NH.

Hey, I was surprised as well, but that data is why I’m backing Santorum.

“And you think that Newt should drop out and endorse Santorum?”

Yes sir.

“Why?”

Because the head to head polls show Santorum dominating Romney, while Romney beats Gingrich. Real simple. Gingrich can’t beat Romney because Gingrich is supported by moderates, not conservatives.

LOL... You have simply got to quit listening to those voices in your head and stay away from sharp things.

LOL... My bride for over 40 years is also a Taurus. She says I look at life through the eyes of a child.... some say she’s right.

What you need to be very carful of is us sinners.... I am Scorpio, one that has actually live the rumors. LOL

It seems to me that Gingrich is more of a fighter than Santorum, which is what we need to battle the left. Gingrich has the creative intelligence to go rogue on the Washington establishment.

I think Santorum should drop out now, for the sake of our country.

Newt is going to win.

Maybe the nomination which would be stupid since he can’t even beat Santorum, but he will lose the general BAD. People will not vote for a guy who is not moral. Sorry but that is the facts. You have a choice....make it the right one. I saw him today. I would feel a little better with him if he would release his health record. He does not look well and don’t even think about looking at him from side view....holy crap. I unfortunately had to on C SPAN today. He took up the entire picture.

I give up. You’ve lost your tether to reality, and are now zooming off toward an orbit near the Paul cluster.

Your guy is TEN POINTS behind Newt, and you spin it as though he’s winning. Good luck and farewell, space traveler.

What was that Reagan quote?

Facts are stubborn things?

Hey I was just as surprised as you when Santorum came out of nowhere to take Iowa.

I had consigned myself to a primary season where Mitt ran the table and all the Newt supporters prided themselves on supporting a ‘solid second place’.

So I dusted things off, took a look at the data, and I liked what I saw. I think he’s got a solid chance to win in SC. Sure, I’d love that he were ahead at this point, but you take what you can get.
