More gun permits not equaling more crime?
Dubuque Telegraph-Herald ^ | 15 jan 2012 | Eric Mandel

Despite a better than 1,000 percent increase in the number of gun permits issued in Dubuque County in 2011, officials who fought the new law are somewhat surprised at the lack of problems caused by it.

More than 2,000 county residents received permits to carry in 2011, a 1,170 percent increase from the previous year. Such an increase was certainly expected; Dubuque County Sheriff Don Vrotsos actually predicted more would apply. And while gun-control groups didn't quite predict the end of the world as we know it, the predictions came close -- thousands of people flashing handguns; fist fights dissolving into bullet-riddled tragedies.

An armed society is a polite society.

Thats because criminals generally don’t seek permits.

Liberals are convinced that anyone with a firearm is a criminal or somehow a firearm makes people want to act criminally.

It does to some in our society, but not all. The legal(not justice) system failed to punish violent offenders so now a host of citizens are putting crims on notice.

Those “officials who fought the new law” should be fired.

"Liberals are convinced that anyone with a firearm is a criminal or somehow a firearm makes people want to act criminally"

I will actually take it in another direction. Libs know that guns don't cause crime, but criminals are fellow travelers with the libs (same mind set and voting patterns), and guns in the hands of honest citizens are a threat to the libs's criminal buddies.

Liberals want to restrict guns because they know in their heart if they had one they fear they would use it criminally. They don’t trust themselves, so how could they ever trust stangers?

Exactly right. Libs always tell us what they fear. In psych-speak it's called “projection.”

Example: Concealed weapon carry permits. The Libs run around predicting “Dodge City” shootings in the streets, zooming incidents of road rage, and carnage at every turn.

They say: “I'd be afraid to carry a gun because I don't trust myself not to shoot so and so under duress. Therefore, if I can't be trusted, NO ONE can be trusted (except for the military, cops, and taxpayer provided or private bodyguards).”

Notice the projection — because I can't keep myself under control and act in a logical and rational manner, then everyone is just like me and can't be trusted to act otherwise.

Yet, within the same breathtaking illogical idea, these same Libs will trust their very lives to strangers with firearms because they take money? What prevents the guardian from taking your money and your life?

Nope. Libs refuse to go there because the concept terrifies them — a paid employee might harm them and steal from them! Therefore, blame everyone else who is not and will never be the problem.

I saw this kind of wonder in Minnesota a year after CCW was enacted. The people who predicted all kinds of horrors are the same ones who complain about overloaded prisons and then profess amazement that crime has dropped.

I disagree. Libs are elitists. Libs think they “know” what is better for you than you do. Libs believe YOU cannot be trusted with a gun because you are too ignorant and violent.

Libs are shocked when they learn that YOU know what is best for you. Libs are the ones who are ignorant and cannot be trusted with guns.

That is a truth that can't be overstated.

In fact, the only real difference between liberals and criminals, is that one group covertly uses the power of government threat and coercion to steal from their fellows, and the other is brave enough to overtly take what they want under their own steam.

Both operate on the same principle of exchange - something for nothing.

It's called "projection" and it assigns behavior the liberal gun grabbers think they themselves would exhibit given the opportunity to carry a gun to normal individuals who have applied for a "permit" to exercise their God given right of self defense.

It is truly an Alice in Wonderland moment! They refuse to accept the evidence, which continues to mount, that CCW reduces crime as State after State sign on, leaving Illinois as the last one holding out (with egg on their face!).

GtG

I agree with your projection theory. In fact, it's proven by how many liberals act and speak.

Consider political discourse. Sure, there are a few people on the "right" who will say intemperate things about liberal politicians, but nothing compared to the number of liberals who say just plain awful things about conservative politicians (and ordinary people who are conservative).

Compare the behavior of, say, a TEA Party rally and an OWS crowd. One group is polite, clean, orderly, and lawful (in fact, liberals and the media have to go the the extent of making things up in order to find something negative to say). The other group? Well, we all know how they tend to behave! It's not the conservative folks who are destroying property, raping, urinating and defecating in the streets, abandoning their children, and so forth.

I believe many liberals project their own thoughts and probable behaviors on others because they are simply incapable of understanding that just because their moral development was arrested in the small-child stage, everyone else's was not.

Of course, the myriad places this has been done before were unreachable for statistics.

You are absolutely correct: Liberals live in a constant state of arrested development. They never make the transition from their emotionalized child state to that of a self-sufficient adult. They always want to see reality the way they want it to be and are in denial of what the reality IS.

In Scott county, we were “shall issue” for a few years before the recent law. You had to write a letter, and demonstrate that you were trained and knew the law.

Was very funny to hear the local liberal rant and rave when I told her I had been carrying a handgun for three years prior to the new law.
