South Carolina Primary (email from Senator Jim DeMint 1/16/2012)
Team DeMint Website; My email ^ | January 16, 2012 | Jim DeMint

Posted on 01/16/2012 6:02:16 AM PST by snippy_about_it

Fellow Patriots:

The presidential primary in South Carolina has intensified and my name is being tossed around a lot.

I have complimented several of our candidates when they spoke out on conservative issues, but the media has suggested that I favor one over the others. I'm writing today to make sure you know exactly where I stand.

I do not have a favorite in this race and I will not endorse a candidate.

I've gotten to know each of the candidates over the past year and they are all far superior to Obama. My view reflects what I've heard from Republican voters across South Carolina who remain divided in this race.

For those of you in South Carolina, I encourage you to watch the Fox News debate tonight and vote this Saturday for the candidate you believe will fight the hardest to stop the massive spending, bailouts, and debt that are bankrupting our country. We need a president with the courage to tell Americans that our government must do less, not more.

The 2012 elections could be our last chance to restore America's greatness so we must defeat President Obama and elect more conservative leaders to the House and Senate.

Please continue to pray for our country and the year ahead. Our future depends on it.

For Freedom,

Jim DeMint United States Senator

DeMint on Fox News on Friday: he is allowing his staff to join the various campaigns — dividing essentially among Romney, Newt and Santorum.

Sad thing is, we had a solid conservative with a decade of executive experience who was LEADING ROMNEY in the polls nationally. But he wasn’t “sufficiently conservative”, so he was trashed mercilessly ... many of the arguments for Gingrich now applied equally to Perry in August ... You could justify the difference in treatment by the late hour ...

C'mon Charles. You're a good historian and you are mixing this all up. Gov. Perry WAS leading (and Newt was low single digits) in August. Perry did NOT drop from that lead because he wasn't "sufficiently conservative". He dropped because George W. Bush was pretending to be an ignorant cowboy -- unfortunately, Rick Perry isn't pretending.

Newt has gotten all AND WAY MORE trashing from the Romulan minions this campaign.

In 2012 we need a fighter and a communicator to beat 0bama. IMHO, that's Newt hands down.

Congress this week will have a phoney vote on raising the debt ceiling to over 15 trillion. The hypocrisy of the “main stream” GOPer will be on full display. I am hoping that revolting theater will move more then a few votes to a candidate that is believable about cutting spending.

Good... they should be able to support the candidate of their choice... even if I despise that candidate. Good for DeMint.

So, I’m sitting here minding my own business and I get a special delivery letter from Romney(care). I contains a check for $5K. Is this really undeniably proof that I support Romney(care)? Answer: A resounding no.

What I do know is that Haley asked the SC legislature last week if it had nothing better to do than pass motorcycle helmet law legislation. That’s conservatism in which one can believe.

If that’s your best shot it isn’t much. Romney(care), Gingrich (Pelosi owned), Paul (court jester) and Perry (pretender) are loaded down with far more baggage.

Peculiar how his letter does not mention repealing Obamacare...or is it, peculiar at all.

Haley dealt herself a huge pile of poo by supporting Romney...we all knew it was coming because of his support for her campaign.
Here's a good laugh....Tea Party convention in Myrtle Bch ...Haley is speaking there today. I can't wait to here the crowds reaction to her going on the stage! I suspect she was invited prior to her endorsing Romney and I hope the audience boos her off the stage! She won't get my vote next time around but I suspect if Romney gets the nod, she will either be a VP choice or a Secretary of some dept.

Newt has gotten all AND WAY MORE trashing from the Romulan minions this campaign.

DO you forget Perry was accused of strapping young girls to tables and forcing them to have sex, I mean to get painful potentially lethal INJECTIONS!!!!

Do you not recall "La Raza Rick", who was for wide-open borders, for allowing illegal immigrant children to spend all our tax dollars on useless college educations, who would give amnesty to everybody and put good americans out of work?

So much so that he was faulted for creating jobs in Texas, because illegal immigrants were attracted to the state and took some of those jobs?

Were you unaware of the "Crony Capitalist Perry", who sold out for a $5000 campaign contribution, who ran his own "Solyanda", who was an idiot tool working for the monied interests?

Did you miss PerryCare, how Perry loved Hillarycare so much he sent a letter praising it and begging them to pass it. And he loved TARP so much he sent a letter praising it and begging them to pass it? And how he personally RAN the campaign of Al Gore in 2008, causing irreparable harm to the GOP and costing us an election -- well not the election, but it sure cost us SOMETHING, we were told.

And you couldn't have been ignorant of how Perry made a "fortune" in real estate, which was OBVIOUSLY a sure sign he was a RINO opportunists using his 40 years of working for a living to inappropriately end up with just over $1 million dollars in the bank.

Everybody claims THEIR candidate has been attacked MORE than ANY OTHER CANDIDATE EVER in the history of the world.

Yes, Perry fell apart in the debates. It made him look stupid, when he clearly isn't stupid. He wrote a book. He wrote TWO books. He graduated from College, he worked in business, he flew planes. No less an "intelligent" person than Newt Gingrich commented on Perry's good ideas and intelligence in the forward to Perry's book.

Perry hadn't been attacked for not being "conservative enough" before, and he clearly didn't know how to handle it. Maybe his pain medication from his back surgery was a factor as well. But he did end up being attacked by all conservatives because he called MITT ROMNEY "heartless" -- for some reason all of conservadom decided to associate themselves with Mitt at that point, and take that message personally.

The attacks on Perry of course all started BEFORE he screwed up his debate "performance". It's nice to say now that his debate flubs caused his trouble, but they were a result of, not a cause of, the attacks on him.

I'm not even saying Perry was our best hope. I never actually decided to support him as "my candidate", I just saw him as more electable than most, and sufficiently conservative for the cause of stopping Romney. And he had money.

I keep hearing Newt is a "communicator", and yet in the past three weeks almost every time there's a negative story about something Newt said, the Newt supporters are here telling us that he didn't really SAY that, or he didn't really "MEAN" it, or that he had clarified it, or some other such thing showing that whatever Newt was doing, he wasn't "communicating effectively". Except we were also told we were all just too ignorant to understand how smart Gingrich was.

The media has destroyed every single conservative who has managed to get close or ahead of Romney. Last time around, when McCain used Bain against Romney, no one called it an attack on capitalism, or criticized him for raising the issue. It was crickets chirping.

Romney has been quoted as saying, “Great care has to be taken not to take a dividend or distribution from a company that puts the company at risk”. Did he take care or not?

He also claimed he created a net of 100,000 jobs. Prove it, and also let us know how many of those jobs went to China or some other country.

He has said that he is the only candidate that can get jobs moving because of his experience at Bain. It's entirely legitimate to ask questions about his judgment, decisions, and specific failures at Bain.

Kennedy used the issue to defeat him in the senate race. McCain used it to help defeat him last time, and Obama will use it to defeat him in the general.

GOP E and talking heads would have helped Capitalism, if they had simply focused on the real issue: Romney's judgment and economic record. They did the opposite.

This article has some interesting information about the marriage of LBO and Manangement Consulting way of doing business, as well as how it can impact the whole economic system.

The decision by DeMint not to endorse a conservative is a de facto endorsement of Ronmey. DeMint message is clear: Romney’s got it in the bag and by not endorsing another candidate the Dems won’t be able to use my support for another candidate as a negative against the GOP in the Presidential election. The fat lady is tuning up, because the Romney coronation is almost complete. The GOP have, once again, sleepwalked their way to another mediocre candidate.

Our greatest threat is the GOP establisment. We can’t seem to overcome them to even be able to thwart the Democratic Party socialists. If the GOP leadership would ally themselves with the conservative cause, then maybe we would have half a chance to restore America from rampant socialism. As long as conservatives are fighting a war on 3 fronts — the Democrat Party, the Liberal Media and the GOP establishment leadership — I don’t see how we restore America.

It is time the Tea Party became a political party of small government. The GOP is becoming worthless in our fight against socialism.

Exactly. DeMint is talking through both sides of his mouth. I’d actually have respected him more if he endorsed RINO Willard, instead he chickens out and only de facto endorses Willard.

I agree with you entirely. This lack of leadership by our “conservative leadership” is allowing for a divided vote. It just makes it clear that they are exactly like all politicians - sticking their finger in the wind trying to figure out which way it blows.

At least Haley was honest enough to let us all see exactly where she stands - closest to the deepest pockets.

Bingo. He’s waiting until the other party-line Republicans give Romney their endorsement so he can cover his ass. Jim DeMint knows that he’s respected by many conservatives, but he sits on his hands when we need someone to rally us? I don’t know how some of you can call that the “right” thing.

It’s downright depressing watching the establishment at work. Is there anyone in Washington with the courage to refuse to endorse Willard Romney the open socialist? Probably not.

Anybody know the source of the info DeMint was endorsing Romney?

I presumed it was because DeMint supported him in 2008. He's learned a lot about politics since then.

I don’t begrudge him not picking anyone. I haven’t made up my mind either. The biggest problem we have here is that our primary is an open primary allowing the dems to muck it up for us.
