Gingrich pitch to conservatives: Don't vote for Santorum

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (CNN) - Newt Gingrich delivered a staunch warning to South Carolina conservatives Monday: "Any conservative who votes for anyone but Newt helps elect a moderate as the nominee."

Gingrich was speaking to a tea party-friendly audience in South Carolina's Horry County when he painted presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney as unelectable in a general election.

"Ask yourself this simple question: Why would you want to nominate the guy who lost to the guy who lost to Obama?"

"The only reason [Romney] is electable right now is because he has raised more money from Wall Street to buy more ads than anybody else in the race, and we're not going to win that game," Gingrich said. "If you count how much money you can raise as the number one test of electability, Obama's going to drown him."

Gingrich has five days to drive home the message that Romney can't beat President Barack Obama. In order to stop the former Massachusetts governor's crushing momentum, Gingrich needs to rally conservatives behind him over competitor Rick Santorum, who has strong evangelical support and has fared better than the former House speaker in Iowa and New Hampshire.

"If you're a conservative, just look at the polls. I am the only candidate capable of stopping a moderate from winning the nomination," said Gingrich.

True enough Santorum won some delegates in Iowa....what has it gotten him? He's in single or near single digits in SC. Newt is still kicking and still the smartest one in the room. Rick Santorum has seen his Zenith come and go. Newt has survived the most negative barrage in the race so far and is right at Romney's heals. He is the last best chance to beat Romney....sadly I don't think the supporters of the other candidates will ever admit it!!

Sorry, poll numbers will not convince me to vote for someone who promises to keep parts of Obamacare. Will I vote for Willard? Hell no. But I won’t vote for McNewt either. But rest assured, if Newt wins the nomination, get ready for another four years of Obama.

Santorum is too stupid to understand the damage he has done recently. He actually thinks he is winning.
He will stay in out of spite to the bitter end. And we can thank the fools in Iowa for getting this all started.

Romney had a plan; Split the Conservative vote, win by default. Rick Santorum, the “DEFAULT” Paleo “conservative”.

And with the help of the knee jerker “perfect conservative” Lemming stampede, it looks like Romney is headed for the nomination.

Nope. The only reason is everyone to be the alternative to Romney. Gosh... would Newt forgo money from the Wall Street?

Your chart so ably proves that, at this point, NO ONE should drop out. SC only has 25 delegates, ALASKA has 27. Florida only has 50 delegates, Tennessee has 58.

I am hopeful ALL candidates right through Super Tuesday. Let’s give everyone, not just IA NH, et al, a full slate of choices.

People not voting for Newt Gingrich are voting for Obama.

Do I need to spell it out?

So why should Santorum voters play ball when the Newt voters didn’t?

Because when it comes to following standards, Newt supporters are as consistent as Mitt Romney.

“you are either all-in for Newt or you’re okay with, or resigned to, Willard.”

AND those okay and resigned to Willard, they are likewise okay and resigned to allowing Obama the win.

Santorum won’t win PA.

However, why does everyone have memory loss when it comes to 2006.

Santorum lost in 2006 for the same reason all the other Republicans that year lost. Conservatives and Republicans in general decided not to show up at the polls and “teach” the GOP a lesson. Even though people like Santorum or George Allen didn’t cause the anger that resulted, they got caught up in it unfortunately when they were up for re-election. Santorum lost because of the boycott + he was running against a native son. That equates to an 18 point blowout that everyone wants to paint on Santorum as proof he isn’t viable. Like it was his fault the voters didn’t show up. He could have done everything right in 2006 and the mood of the conservative voters would have still screwed him.

People need to stop pretending 2006’s loss was due to something on the part of Santorum when it was clearly in fact not. Even George Allen, after being “macaca’ed” should have still won his race, but lost. 2006 was a boycott year.

Would you still pull the lever for Santorum?

One of the reasons is that Gingrich would be one of the weakest presidential candidates ever. Obama's smear machine will chew him up and spit him out. He has a sordid past, has historically been unlikeable, even to Republicans let alone independents, and his ties to liberal positions on the most pressing issues of our times will come back to haunt him and will be ammunition for Obama and the media.

I just can't see the general electorate warming up to a candidate Gingrich, especially during a dirty, scandal unveiling a day, campaign.

Sorry, I’m not buying that false dilemma. Besides, if Newt wins the nomination, then enjoy another four years of Obama. Newt has never even won statewide office before.

Newt might actually be useful if he wrote speeches and served as Santorum’s debate coach. As it is, he is just another giant ego mud-wrestling another giant ego.

"Rick Santorum, the “DEFAULT” Paleo “conservative”.

Santorum is NO paleo conservative, not even close. He's a social conservative with a neocon foreign policy.

I am going to watch the debate tonight, thankfully without huntsman on the stage, and will probably make up my mind then. Snatorum is a great guy and I was hoping he would fare better, but since Iowa, he has become a streetcorner preacher. It’s a bit disconcerting.
In Iowa he did not step up to take on romney for the lying ads against Gingrich, but he jumped right on Gingrich in SC for airing the bain shot at romney as if he was a saint. I don’t want a saint for president. Now we see what his reward from romney has been, haven’t we, Rick?
Now that the lies are airing about him, he thinks that is just so unfair. Well, why was it fair against Gingrich in Iowa then, because Rick, those nasty ads were the only reason you won.
I am pretty upset at ALL of these guys. But G-d ain’t going to send us the perfect candidate no matter how hard we pray.
If we have to choose one or the other, I want the fighter. I want him fighting from the time he opens his eyes in the morning until he closes his eyes at night, and tomorrow, I want him to do it again.
Show me some fight, Rick, or it’s over.
