It’s not surprising but it is big news. This has always been the problem with Newt..... his personal life is full of baggage. The kind of baggage that turns off social conservatives - a core constituency for a successful GOP Presidential run.
It will impact the primaries and the general election.
I think this will backfire and evoke sympathy for Gingrich.
If this causes Newt to drop out now, then the conservative vote will solidify around Santorum. Without the conservative vote split three ways among Newt/Santorum/Paul, Romney loses.
My guess is that Drudge and ABC are just trying to shake the confidence of SC voters so they vote for Milquetoast Romney.
Anyone who thinks that Gingrich's character will not be an issue is hopelessly naive. It will be an issue over and over and over again. The public eats this sort of thing up and Gingrich has enough in his past to feed them for a long time.
He is not known to be a good man. Period. This s$it was going to hit the fan at some point. Better now than later.

The test is whether or not Newt backs down. If he does he can KMA. If he doesn’t, he’s got my vote (unless Palin gets in).
Gingrich’s first wife had cancer and SHE filed for divorce long before the surgery. She is still living. Their daughter, Jackie Cushman, wrote an article about and it’s on FR.
So, we’ve got two primary candidates. One wasn’t smart enough to make peace with an ex-wife before running for the presidency. The other, despite living in the toughest economic times of the past 70 years and despite being a perpetual candidate for 6+ years, wasn’t smart enough to realize that offshore bank accounts wouldn’t play well with the electorate. Dang, we are the stupid party.
She was back at it last year in GQ. And the meme is “ But she’s not angry”.
