But can you imagine being Governor of Texas under a President like Perry?

4.5%, supporters, odds are they will split the same as the current polling. That is just the way it is.

This is great.

If Newt has another debate performance, tonight, like he did Monday, he’ll knock Romney off of his high horse on Saturday.

They must be filling up the toilets at RNC headquarters.

I know we dont have all that many stellar choices this year. I really dont think Gingrich’s campaign has what it takes in the general. for one thing it keeps nearing collapse he just happens to be able to catch a break when other campaigns collapse around him. he has little money and i dont think he has the passion to compete in the general election. there is also a percentage of swing voters who just plain old dont like him.
ah well as you said and i am paraphrasing here - it stinks

One thing I know is this:

The Best Man won’t win.

Never understood why people didn’t vote for Rick Perry.

That being said, it’s kind of a relief because I didn’t want him to finish last in South Carolina and it was looking that way.

I do hope he endorses Newt Gingrich.

I can’t stand that prissy little Santorum and...

well, forgive me, free republic, for I have sinned.

I got on the Newt woman trouble thread and had a little fun with it and I shouldn’t have.

This is an outrageous attempt to derail Newt. He was very dignified and excellent in his response this morning. I don’t think it will hurt him.

I am so glad that Rick Perry is endorsing Newt.

The best man won’t win, but a good man will.

Per Fox News headline: Texas Gov. Rick Perry to Suspend Republican Presidential Campaign Later Today. Not dropping out. And, he would never endore Santorum.

You are right.

Perry didn’t get the votes, but he did get the respect and admiration of almost everyone he met or who heard him speak.

He’s a fine man.

His support will probably put Newt over the top. Let it be so.

The only problem I have with supporting Newt ... and this is petty ... that he has some really despicable fans on Free Republic who have shown their support for Newt in an ugly way by hateful trashing of other candidates.

But, that’s not Newt’s fault.

“Suspend” means he can keep gathering money to pay his campaign bills. All candidates who drop out do the “suspend” thing. Perry is dropping out.

So much for the Perry stalking horse theory that has been peddled here.

I never bought into the stalking horse crap with Perry, because if you're going to be a stalking horse, you have to be able to actually pull support away from other candidates.

I'm a huge Perry fan and believe this country is making a great big mistake BUT if Newt gets the nomination, I would not choose Perry for VP.

I would choose someone from either FL, OH, or some other "must have" state.

Perry doesn't need to be VP and the R should be able to get TX without Perry. It wouldn't be a good political move to select Perry.

I’d really like to call you something right now, but Jim might be monitoring and he likes for me to stay nice.
