Newt Gingrich: The Indispensable Republican [same "bombshell" details in 2010 Esquire hitpiece]
Esquire ^ | 18/10/2010 | John H. Richardson

Early in May, she went out to Ohio for her mother's birthday. A day and a half went by and Newt didn't return her calls, which was strange. They always talked every day, often ten times a day, so she was frantic by the time he called to say he needed to talk to her.

"About what?"

He wanted to talk in person, he said.

"I said, 'No, we need to talk now.' "

He went quiet.

"There's somebody else, isn't there?"

She kind of guessed it, of course. Women usually do. But did she know the woman was in her apartment, eating off her plates, sleeping in her bed?

She called a minister they both trusted. He came over to the house the next day and worked with them the whole weekend, but Gingrich just kept saying she was a Jaguar and all he wanted was a Chevrolet. " 'I can't handle a Jaguar right now.' He said that many times. 'All I want is a Chevrolet.' "

He asked her to just tolerate the affair, an offer she refused.

"She seems bitter & nasty."

Hello? He cheated on her. Don't know how you get nasty out of that snippet, but surely she has a right to be bitter about how he treated her.

She’s be a lot more sympathetic if she hadn’t done the exact same thing to the first Mrs. Gingrich, who in turn was a sexual predator. Honestly, I feel sorry for 16 year old Newt, who was preyed upon and royally messed up.

Now if Newt was getting regular BJ’s from an intern, that would be acceptable, right?

That is suppose to come later, all you currently have is the trailer park trash spin getting put out by the newt people. Same thing as clintoon did to his bimbos. Trash the woman before she talks.

Wow... truly there is nothing more pathetic than an ex tossing the ex under the bus...and after so many years!
Marianne would be a lot happier in her life if she just would just forgive Newt and move on! Perhaps she needs to sit down with her Bible.

This may actually strengthen Newt’s campaign as he’s already admitted to his infidelity and to his failure as Marianne’s husband and has asked God to forgive him. In addition, Newt now appears to be living right and fighting for good.

Hello - she chose to have an adulterous affair with him and then married that adulterer and is now bitter that he was an adulterer?

She now says: “I refused. That’s not what a marriage is supposed to be.” Great - she changed her point of view. That is very good. She realizes that she and Newt were wrong to commit adultery while newt was married to Newt’s former high school teacher who had seduced him while she was his teacher.

Then Callista and Newt also later realized that they were wrong to commit adultery while Newt was married to the adulterer Marianne.

So everyone involved agrees that adultery is wrong.

But Newt (the sexually doomed statutory rape victim - his first wife was his high school teacher and seduced him when he was only 16) is somehow the evil one?

“Took the Chevy to the Levy, but the Levy was dry”

From this I get that maybe the first wife was a bit of a “elitist/blue blood/waspy-type” based on the she was a jaguar, and he wanted a chevy comment.

I didn’t know that about Newt, so he was 16 when he was courted/hunted by an older woman?

Please tell me more.

Wake up. You may be willing to excuse Newt by dumping on Marianne Gingrich.

Irrelevant.

Newt cannot defeat Obama with this story hanging on him. Sorry. Better to admit it now than later. If it was published already in 2010 that doesn’t negate it’s impact now, not so much among Republicans as among the general electorate, should he get the nomination.

So what if Marianne is bitter.

Even if his first marriage was a mistake and “didn’t work out,” and he gets something of a pass on that and the hospital divorce request story is a lie and all of that.

He cheated on his “second” wife. That alone is bad enough. But he was narcissistic enough to ask her to let him have a steady mistress??

Do
you
really
expect
the
general
electorate
to
give
him
a
pass
on
that?

Think hard about this, now, while there’s still time.

I don’t know what to think. The Esquire piece is so remarkable as to elicit disbelief, as they say.

The general electorate gave a pass to Clinton in 1998-1999 by a margin of 68% to 32%.

They said it didn’t matter.

What matters is the future, not the past.

There’s lots of people who led better lives, but they didn’t throw their hat in the ring.
