Reuters) - The Supreme Court on Friday ruled in a Texas political dispute, rejecting judge-drawn election maps favoring minority candidates and Democrats in the 2012 congressional and state legislature elections.
The Supreme Court ruled that the judges appeared to have unnecessarily ignored the state's plans in drawing certain districts and those maps can at least be used as a starting point.
"Some aspects of the district court's plans seem to pay adequate attention to the state's policies, others do not and the propriety of still others is unclear," the court held in its opinion.
Redrawing the Texas districts has been a major political and legal battle. The state's population went up by more than 20 percent, or 4.2 million people, over the past decade, with Hispanics accounting for 2.8 million of the increase.

Good news. I did not find what the vote count was.
Unanimous.
UNANIMOUSLY...This must have been a really screwed up map if all the demonRATs on the High Court voted to toss it out.
The district court panel's actions were preposterous and not related to reality or jurisprudence.
Congratulations Texas! Excellent.
F U and the pogo-stick you rode in on judge.
(judge who drew up the new districts, not struck down)

Just some historical fun here: Bush v. Palm Beach County Canvassing Board was unanimous too; a fact that many liberals can’t live with. They think everything was decided 5-4. I love to tell them they are WRONG.
Excellent news but the damage has been done already by a Bad Judge.
Rick Perry was right. We need term limits on judges.
This judge cost Texas the right to have its primary election on Super Tuesday.
BFD
By Super Tuesday, the nomination will have already been decided.
The very very important outcome of this decision is that for the next ten years, the Texas House delegation will be predominantly Republican.
And Texas has just picked up yet another 4 more seats, making Pelosi's job in "taking back the house" that much harder.

You’re probably right, but when it happened, I was still hoping for Rick Perry.
Now I don’t care so much.
