Mandated Contraception, Sterilization: Caesar Demands Church Violate Conscience
Catholic Online ^ | 1/20/12 | Deacon Keith Fournier

"The Obama administration has drawn an unprecedented line in the sand. The Catholic bishops are committed to working with our fellow Americans to reform the law and change this unjust regulation. We will continue to study all the implications of this troubling decision.

"In effect, the president is saying we have a year to figure out how to violate our consciences. To force American citizens to choose between violating their consciences and forgoing their healthcare is literally unconscionable." (Cardinal Designate Dolan, Abp of New York, President, USCCB)

The moment that President Obama nominated Governor Kathleen Sebelius to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services he sent the signal of where he would lead this nation. Sadly, many people did not see the signs, including some Catholics.

Of course, anyone who heard former Presidential candidate Obama utter his "that's above my pay grade" answer to Reverend Rick Warren's question as to "when a baby gets human rights" - either had their head in the sand - or was no friend of children in the womb themselves.

This President does not respect the fundamental Human Right to Life, period. Sorry Doug Kmiec and all the others who were snowed by his sophistry, the truth is now very clear and I sincerely hope you join in the necessary resistance to this unjust administration....

...To translate this Edict, the American Caesar has spoken and given the Catholic Church 13 months to comply with its unjust regulation or face punitive consequences.

To me, anyone who claims to be a Christian and supports abortion is a liar. Of course, I also believe Progressives are pathological liars anyway.

I don’t know. The Catholic clergy stinks (I’m Catholic, btw) but I think Bambi is relying on the underlying anti-Catholicism of the US, where the mainline Protestants and the radical secularists seem to have met and embraced. Well, along with the sweet but clueless UUs...

Obama doesn’t give a darn because he knows that the Church is not powerful now, the press is supporting him no matter what, and he can be just as offensive as he wishes.

The Catholic Church has power that it does not use.How about stating from the pulpits that we have the most anti-life President in the history of the U.S.?

Gotta keep religion out of the government. But no problem with forcing government into religion.

If they cave on this, it’s all over.

Maybe this will give the ‘social justice’ Catholics who voted for Obama some pause, because this will directly affect the livelihoods of many of them, since they’re involved in lots of Church related charitable and medical jobs.

My pet theory is that Kennedy delivered the "catholic" vote in exchange for it.

The only 'catholics' who voted for Obama were those liberals for whom 'social justice' is the deciding factor. They look down their noses at Catholics who take the teachings of the Church seriously, if those teachings interfere with what they think is 'fair'. To those liberal Catholics, abortion is simply one issue among many, and they think it's silly to stress it over poverty, injustice, racism, and sins against the environment. So the fact that Obama was going to be the most pro-abortion President ever didn't bother them at all, because they hate Republicans.

You can stop right there, as that represents the majority of Catholics in the US.

Sadly, yes, 52% of voters who self-identify as Catholics voted for Obama. I spoke to several of them in my Parish after the election. They truly believed that Obama wasn’t that pro-abortion, because they’d heard Catholics publicly supporting him, but since they believe Republicans hate the poor, anyway, they believed they had to vote for Obama. They, like too many other American voters, got their news about Obama from the MSM, which did all it could to cover up just how liberal he actually is. But remember, this is MA, where union dominated blue collar ‘Catholics’ voted every 6 years for Teddy the Swimmer.
