“Newt+ Freddie+ Lobbyist=Housing crash.”

I think you’re misinformed. Newt did not act as a lobbyist for Freddy or Fanny..... he was hired as a consultant, big differance.

You do know that this is a Newt friendly site and such obvious prejoritive statements are not well received.... don’t you?

"I just heard the skeleton on CNN say there was a 33% increase in voters in S.C. over 2008. Is this true and what does it all mean?"

Someone posted 433,000 to 600,000 vote total increase. That's slightly over 33%. About 38 %.

“Newt vs Hillary in 2016”

OMG, you’ve given me a mega headache with that thought! I just wonder tho .. HRC isn’t aging that well. Would she even be up for the challenge in 4 years?

One question about Callista ... has she ever had one hair out of place? Such a visual contrast with Newt, much less Michelle.

I don’t know a on about Kasich’s history and politics, but I like what I’ve seen of him. He’s also a great communicator who’s been a commentator and host on FOX. To me being a good communicator is the single most important quality we need in a candidate, after conservative bonafides of course. Kasich did just suffer a major defeat on his anti-union legislation in Ohio though, so I don’t know if he would be viewed as damaged goods. OTOH, if his initiatives are that unpopular, he may not survive as governor, so he might be doing himself a favor by moving to the V.P. slot.

For all the grips about Newt’s seemingly off the wall comments, I DO believe that just comes from an active, creative, brilliant mind that sometimes doesn’t use a practical filter.

BUT he does that in his everyday conversation, never did it legislatively. I would think that as POTUS he’d clear any major moves with advisors before acting on them.

There’s a world of difference between simply stating an idea and acting on it...tho a POTUS does have to watch his every word because everything he says is reported. If elected, he’s going to have to learn not to ‘think out loud.’

"I would be against any candidate who’s never had to run for reelection"

Are we talking about the same Marco Rubio?

Early political career

[edit] Before 2000

While studying law, he interned for U.S. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.[11] Marco Rubio served as a City Commissioner for West Miami before being elected to the Florida legislature.

[edit] Florida legislature (2000–2009)

He was elected to the Florida House of Representatives for the 111th district in a special election on January 25, 2000. He has won each of his re-election bids.[12] In November 2006, he was elected Speaker of the Florida State House for the 2006–08 term.

". A young, less politically experienced individual does not work for me. I’m leaning towards Santorum myself. "

Well, I guess Santorum IS more experienced- In losing re-elections.

I normally wake with a smile on Sunday anyway - this morning I checked this thread first and the top of my head nigh fell off, I was smiling so wide.

GO NEWT!!!!!

And get yourself to work with Perry, so you have some rock solid policies to lay out for Florida. Start explaining not just WHAT you will do, but how and why you will do it.(Yeah, I know. Perry is still the one I really trust. I will not apologise for that.)

One thing I have really come to admire about Newt is he treats the electorate with respect for their intelligence. Lot of people say he is a smart man, and I can’t argue that, but he treats his listeners as reasoning, responsible adults. That is rare in a politician of any party.

Bit of a ramble, but I am rather happy this morning!

Fair enough, but I meant in a major position on the national stage (House, Senate or governor). I don’t count being a representative at the state level as serious experience toward a Presidential bid, just a step to those more prominent positions.

I sort of thought that might have been what you meant, however, Marco did get elected to the state house Speaker position, and then straight to the US Senate. And he was in the state house since 2000. But if you don’t consider that enough experience, I understand. That’s up to you.

I remember someone on FOX explaining a few days ago why South Carolina is considered such a good predictor of who the eventual nominee is. They say it has a perfect mix of the three major kinds of conservatives, military families, social conservatives, and fiscal conservatives. I’m not sure that Rove’s point about the previous winners having always won Iowa or New Hampshire in addition to South Carolina is so relevant if that’s the case. It could be that Iowa and New Hampshire are just oddball states where anything can happen.

I still am having a hard time understanding why Newt did so bad in New Hampshire. I really think social conservatism is on the outs in the northeast to a degree that few people in other parts of the country can realize. Hollywood continues to make great inroads at mainstreaming homosexuality, especially in those quarters of the country where religion is weaker. I am pretty sure both Newt and Santorum were viewed as much stronger social conservatives than Romney or Huntsman.

That makes a lot of sense re - South Carolina.

I was surprised how well Newt did in NH, considering he didn’t really campaign there much. He was wise - why waste money campaigning in a forgone conclusion state.

I went to bed at 8PM last night

Slept like a babe knowing our countrys future and safety may end up in the hands of someone who actually cares and is able and willing to do whats necessary...

Just skimmed through what I missed...

Y’all were up all night..

Im so proud of South Carolina

the state where I was last stationed in the USAF

where I graduated from college..

where my youngest was born

and where I voted for Reagan twice..

I notice that the county that Romney ended up with was Charleston..

Charleston was liberal when I lived there ..

so it fits that they would go for Romney...

At that time they had a liberal Democrat mayor, Joe Riley..

His cousin another Riley was the Gov of SC...

But we had Strom....

But Newt had a big endorsement from New Hampshire’s conservative newspaper. It’s surprising that ended up being worth nothing in the end. I am pretty sure Newt did spend time campaigning there as well.

Let’s remember that Newt didn’t start attacking Romney on Bain Capital until South Carolina. Below is more evidence that the Bain Capital attacks WORKED. Romney got almost NO votes from low-income voters. His glass jaw was shattered. And that is why if Romney is nominated in the general election, he will lose. Having real human beings show real emotion and say Romney destroyed their livelihoods for his own profit or shipped jobs overseas is devastating among that segment of voters. And in this bad economy there are a whole lot more voters sensitive to that. These attacks destroyed Romney in the 1994 Kennedy Senate race and they are probably more potent than ever now. Without the Bain attacks, we probably would have had very different election results.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/OTUS/south-carolina-primary-newt-gingrich-defeat-mitt-romney/story?id=15411865#.TxtUqCbDVoY

“The controversy over Romney’s experience at Bain & Co. also hurt him in the Palmetto State. Twenty-eight percent of voters saw it as a negative, a substantial number, especially when looking at the lower-income voters, among whom Romney got virtually no support.”

just like Obama was before, Romney is backed by big Wall Street money. And that’s because Wall Street has been making out just fine during the past couple years and has no desire to change Washington D.C.

You're exactly right (except of course that Obama still is backed by Wall Street money)! Newt should pick up Herman Cain's distinction between Wall Street and Main Street and drive home that he is pro free market capitalism, not corporatism. He's said something along these lines, but it needs to be sharpened and clarified.
