Thousands have flocked to watch a fake presidential rally held by comedian Steve Colbert and one-time Republican presidential frontrunner Herman Cain in Charleston, South Carolina. And in an interesting twist, the crowd, comprised mostly of students, was far larger audience than any at an actual rally during this year's election cycle in the state.

Herman Cain, whose presidential campaign was plagued - and finished - by a string of accusations of sexual misconduct, appeared alongside

“it was just a gimmick to trash Perry”

Exactly right.

“The reason I am beating Cain up is because he has no qualms with using the race card to unfairly diminish a good candidate and all he gives a **** about is himself.”

Yep. And then they asked him his opinion about the N-rock. Said he didn’t think Perry was a racist but he should have known better.

Imagine.

There are still supporters of Cain right here on FR and they will go out and vote for him - not just liberals and dems.

Very few. I say that as somebody who actually sent money to the Cain campaign and still have his bumper sticker on my car.

However few or many they are, he was gonna be on the ballot despite dropping out. I don't think an appearence with Colbert inspired any conservatives to vote for Cain instead of Newt or Santorum.

I am done venting.

Perry bowed out and was a class act, who will continue the fight from Tx until at least 2014.

Cain, just keeps being a huckster that can’t stop screwing with the process.
He is doing this purely for money and has no care for how it damages the party or the country.

It is disgusting, that he is enriching himself by making a mockery of the process.
It is DANGEROUS that he gives people like Stewart and Colbert legitimacy as outlets for truth.

It was a pleasure and a privilege to campaign on FR for Gov. Perry. He conducted himself as a gentleman in the campaign and he will continue to do so now that he is not running. He’s a class act.

Let me be clear.

The reason I am beating Cain up is because he has no qualms with using the race card to unfairly diminish a good candidate and all he gives a **** about is himself.

To all that you said, I agree 100%.

For me personally, everytime Cain opened his yap, I heard Chris Farley as Matt Foley, motivational speaker doing his SNL skit.."in a van down by the river"..

Maybe Colbert will come around and endorse his fellow Catholic in the general, we can hope.

He is attempting to lure dumbass college kids to dilute the vote in an open primary, and I don’t even think he is doing it to sway the outcome.

I think he is doing it purely to enrich himself.
Herman gets a paycheck, The country be damned.

If we allow this **** to be legitimized, we are in for big trouble.
It’s bad enough that Dan Rather, CBS, NBC et al have so much sway over public opinion, but now Herman wants Comedy Central to inform the people as to the issues, so long as he can collect a paycheck.

FUHC!!

You may be right about his motives. However, exposing the problems of open primaries is a good way to get them to be closed up a bit. There has to be a happy medium between a state with an open primary and same day registration with no ID required and Virginia with its loyalty oath.

I actually like the idea of inconvenient caucuses with no absentee ballots requiring only the truly committed to show up.

I am not a fan of fractionating the church for political gain.

Yes, I understand that highlighting the ridiculousness of the current process could be beneficial, but based on Herman’s own personal behavior I doubt his motives.

Bigtime!

You were also a class act, CW, even when you were attacked by the ruhless mob here. Thank you again.

Me, neither (whatever that means). I mean I hope Colbert’s sensibilities about the country going to hell under zero will nag him into supporting Newt eventually.

You can’t run in a primary and then sit out a general.

I don’t think many people pay attention to the debates. Most people I know that do watch them already know who they will vote for. They mostly watch them to compare notes the next morning, like a sporting event.
