And if you went to Penn State, University Park Campus, you can imagine the cost on the State College taxpayers if Penn State didn’t have their own police force.

I’m still amazed that most here don’t see that but since I know PA law and PA and Penn State, it’s easy for me. Out of Staters don’t know this just like I don’t know most of other States’ laws and univeristies.

This is not the simple thing many would like to think it is.

He knew and he told the PSU’s trustees. Yes, child molestation is sick, but JoePa told. He is guilty in one thing, not following through.

Too bad Gov. Corbitt has no conscience or this would haunt him. The crook was both prosecutor and judge on Joe. I guess that’s what you get after being in-house legal counsel for Waste Management Inc.

“Why didn’t Penn State just ask him to retire rather than fire him. His life was his family which Penn State was a major part of. Bless you Papa Joe..

Joe was one heck of a great man.... I was a professor for Penn State for quite a few years. While I was never a fan of Jopa as a coach as he was not a good strategist, I can say that there are few men I have ever met who showed integrity in his decisions, even when they hurt his chances of winning a game. For Gov’r Corbitt to hang Joe out to dry, he must not have known the man very well.

Bobby, second hand info is that.second hand. I could say that my neighbor is a child abuser, but it someone calls the sheriff I doubt that they will do anything. People would call up the law to accuse X of abuse if second hand was permitte.

McQueery should have stopped the act in progress. He didn’t (or maybe he did, we don’t really know). He did report it to his immediate boss, Paterno, after discussing it with his father, who reported hearsay to his immediate boss.

For everyone living in lalaland, there are requirements/laws to follow. And the more laws we have about this and other things, the more people think twice about getting involved. We can all be keyboard commandos but when it hits you in the face, then you have to decide whether to fight it or do what’s legally required or more. You have to decide if hearsay it reliable and what your actions will produce.

I don’t fault Paterno on this. He did was he was legally required to do in our now PC society. He was an older man, grew up in a different world. And the witch hunts of the past, even as most recently of the child care cases and repressed memory, etc. and all that crap, we get to this.

The media made Paterno the focus of this, it suits their sensationalism, and the some of the sheep are following right along with it. It takes pressure and exposure off the real issues.

I couldn’t wait for you gutless cowards to come out taking up for the no good sob. His ego was nothing but getting the wins, to hell with anyone who gets in the way. Be it a pedophile assistant, a child or whatever, it’s all about joe(with a little j). If it’s me in that situation, the cops are going to be on the scene because there would have been a fight. Hope joe is enjoying his nice warm corner right now

Keep blaming Paterno for doing the only right and legal thing. Continue ignoring the agenda. They count on people like you.

“His ego was nothing but getting the wins, to hell with anyone who gets in the way”

That would carry weight if he actually did that and the football seasons showed that. The facts don’t show that. The football stats of Penn State don’t show that.

Yes, it’s all about Joe. The facts don’t matter.

Whether we agree or disagree, Joe Paterno still had more than a few who respected and admired him. I do not doubt it is a very sad day for them.

May he RIP.

We will just agree to disagree. He reported the incident, which was witnessed by McQueary who reported to his superior (Paterno). I blame the university officials who were ultimately responsible. And what about the 1998 incident that was investigated by the police?

Jeez you kindness is overwhelming. JoePa did what was the rule to tell the PSU authority. He did.

Bobby, calm down. You sound like a victim. JoePa did what was required. Second hand info is not - or should not -be part of law enforcement. If it was you’d have neighbors spying on neighbors. Soviet Union was like that.

My condolences to JoePa’s family and to all who loved him.

My prayers for the Nittany Lions, all of those beautiful students, to have grace to navigate these difficult days.

We are.

Penn State.

Yes...he did what whet the law required (and he seemed to know what the minimum was) but he did not do the right thing ESPECIALLY after knowing what this guy was (and he did know). And as far as '98: it was quashed. Now--lemme think here for a minute--who might be on the short list of people who might have had it quashed? Who was--at that time--the most powerful person in central PA?

Defending people--whomever they might be--who aided and abetted a serial child rapist is not pretty, even for people who are normally reasonable. Sorry.

JoePa did what was required

I just pray that you or those of your ilk don't become a youth coach or scoutmaster or the like and over a near-decade do your bare minimum "required" to protect children.
