Psst: Hear the Roar and Pay Attention
American Thinker ^ | 1/22/12 | C. Edmund Wright

After Thursday's debate was over in Charleston, I assumed that Newt had not only survived the Marianne episode, but had benefitted from it. I also figured he would win S.C. and that Santorum would fade as a challenger to him. Everyone I knew who saw the debate reached this same conclusion.

Yet as incredible as it may seem, all day Friday we were treated to multiple reviews from members of the conservative media on how Rick Santorum "won" the Thursday night debate in Charleston and that how this would help him in South Carolina. Dick Morris flatly proclaimed that Santorum did so well he might sweep in and take second from Newt Gingrich. Morris also predicted this would mean a S.C. win and nomination for Mitt Romney.

Terrence Jeffrey also proudly proclaimed a big Santorum win in the debate. On the Rush Limbaugh Show, the host refused to give his analysis, but mentioned multiple times that his personal email caucus was swept by the Pennsylvania Senator. Charles Krauthammer, meanwhile, admitted that Newt won it "in the first three minutes" but that Santorum had a very strong night after that.

And I'm thinking: what debate did these folks watch? Do they not pay attention to the crowd reaction? Do they not know what it indicates?

This may be our last stand. Nobody can turn the attitude of the entitlement class, created in the last 50 years, around in four years.

The probability is that the debt load created by the leftist Democrats (supported by too many Republicans and the leftist media) will force many changes through attempts at raising taxes coupled with increased costs/monetary devaluation.

Legally, I see no way to even turn around the massive system of laws and regulations that have all but destroyed the United States.

Next Gingrich, being well versed in History and the Constitution, will undoubtedly be able to propose many ways to stymie, terminate, bypass, etc., those issues.

Instead, I see it likely that attempts at change will only enrage the entitlement class and their lefty over lords. Maybe they will be too lazy to even rise up in useful protest? I know that the over lords will at least try to whip them into a frenzy and the lib lovers in the media will do their best to make it an across the board crisis.

I believe you are right on the mark here. And I believe that Newt Gingrich's knowledge, background, willingness to fight and/or explain in layman's terms, is probably the best candidate for the coming times (and sleazy/traitorous actions of the leftists) you have described.

Enjoyed your input, thanks for posting.

I don't need another messiah, I don't want a fuehrer, and I don't expect a saint.

And that is exactly where the republican voter base is right now.

It is also what the talking heads are not getting.

It was very interesting this morning (Sunday) listening to CNN (which I rarely do) just not understanding what actually happened...why, Newt got applause “with the people standing”; mind you it was not a standing ovation...but, they said, did it show the people’s disdain for the media? Listening to them was pitiful, just pitiful!!!

“The roar is passion. The roar is intensity. The roar is pent up frustration.”

The roar is about a public school yesterday in Arizona going on lock down because a group of illegal aliens were walking down the street next to the school without any fear of intervention. The roar is about passing a bill that would take away the civil liberties of American citizens by throwing them in jail indefinitely without access to a lawyer or a trial based on the “suspicion” that they might be involved in terrorism. The roar is about a $14 trillion dollar (and climbing) national debt that will destroy this country’s economy for generations. The roar is about significantly defunding our military and crippling our ability to effectively protect our interests abroad and at home. We roar because the media is complicit in the destruction of this great country. We roar because while the government grows larger, our freedoms and rights are significantly diminished. We roar because this is our country, our rights, our freedoms, our values that are being trampled and we will not relinquish them without a battle at the ballot box. Roar on, America!

Here’s hoping he will get it

That's what I'm praying for. Whether by design, or by providential accident, Newt has picked up the pennant of Tea Party conservatives. He's carrying our banner into battle, wearing our colors, and articulating our passion our resolve, and, yes, our anger.

I pray that Newt is aware that he's being handed lightning in a bottle. That he will be humbled, inspired, and emboldened by his awareness of that fact. I pray that he will prove a worthy gladiator, wielding our gathered power with wisdom and conviction. If he does all these things, then I pray that he will never forget who brought him to the dance.

Go, Newt!

“I’m not familiar with the book you mention, but...”

“Ameritopia” by Mark Levin. Excellent. He describes the philosphical underpinnings of the statist mindset - such as Plato, Hobbes, Marx - the idea that if we just get the “right” people in power that a utopia can be created, with equal outcomes for all. We know how that always turns out. Levin contrasts that with the philosphy that inspired the founders - Burke, Montesquieu, Toqueville - belief in the value of the individual, natural law, God-given unalienable rights, private property, etc. He traces how the statist mindset has gradually taken over our institutions - and how to fight it. If we don’t understand what the ideas are that we are fighting it’s harder to combat them. Levin does a GREAT job of laying out the history of statism - its a must read for all thinking Americns. It’s 40% off on Amazon - just came out last week and already #1, I believe, on the NY Slimes bestseller list - or if it’s not, it soon will be, just as “Libery and Tyranny” was. Please read it, everybody!!!

Very well said and written article. Thank you.

Newt realizes at this point in time being tough and assertive is necessary to correct the years of injustice brought on by liberals. America desparately needs someone who has a spine!

I will definitely check it out! Thanks for the info. :)

I speak of "attitudes" in the public when perhaps I should more accurately say "mindset". It's good to know at least a few others understand it. The people who think like those liberals across the world always make that excuse when confronted by facts about Communism, or Socialism in general, or about individual dictators like Stalin and Mao.

Perhaps what's even more frightening is that Obama used this outright all the way back in 2007 in the beginning of his campaign as well. Putting himself up as the "messiah" and the cult of personality achieved the blinding of the rest of his adherents. Here's a quote from Obama back in Oct. of 2007 when he was at a South Carolina church - this was said DURING his "guest sermon" during services at the church (note the imagery as well - just one of many "haloed" shots of Obama). Just like all the others Obama is now "not the right guy". Obama has pretty much been thrown under his own bus out of necessity to defend their agendas - they always eat their own. Our job is to wake up the public to SEE what is happening now. I'm sure Levin's book might help for those who are willing to read it (and don't already understand, or need more info. to back them up in arguments! LOL)

The roar is passion. The roar is intensity. The roar is pent up frustration. The roar, put another way, is the national mood of conservatives.

I think and hope Newt understands one thing: 2012 will NOT be won by appeasing the Left and playing humble before them. 2012 will be won by firing up the Republican base so that every single one of them SHOWS UP and votes.

To a degree, but when people are frustrated and angry they tend not to forget what pissed them off. And obama is in their face with a new outrage just about every night.

It's a lot more than that in the general election. About half of eligible adults vote. The energy rising against Obama is a guarantee that the all-important turnout will favor the gop this year.

Rino congresscritters who fear running with Newt will be like the "staffers" who walked out on him last Spring--left out in the cold and wishing they had better judgment. They'll be like Karl Rove--a failed flunkie looking for a real job.

BTW, notice how nobody picked up Rover's option this cycle, even when there were eight republicans running and needing help?
