Pay Attention to Your Ticker

Heart attacks don't always strike out of the blue -- there are many symptoms we can watch for in the days and weeks leading up to an attack. But the symptoms may not be the ones we expect. And they can be different in men and women, and different still in older adults. Last year, for example, a landmark study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Institute found that 95 percent of women who'd had heart attacks reported experiencing symptoms in the weeks and months before the attack -- but the symptoms weren’t the expected chest pain, so they went unrecognized.

Don't let that happen to you. Here are 10 heart symptoms you're likely to ignore -- and shouldn't.

I’ve had 2 heart attacks and open heart surgery. I’ve had problems with my heart racing and beating irregularly. What I did that seems to work is I got a cat off Craigslist. Now when I surf the internet at home I get in almost a laying down position and the cat lays on my chest just above my heart. The purring, warmth, and the cats own heart beat make all the symptoms go away. My cat’s name is Sally and she just kind of lays right on my heart to the left and sort of hangs down in my arm-pit so I can still see my screen and type if I need to. It really works and I would recommend this treatment. God Bless!

The most common warnings I hear are sudden exhaustion and shortness of breath.

I recently experienced serious chest pain that increased more and more rapidly over several days to the point where I consulted a doctor. After an exam and EKG he recommended that I go directly to the emergency room. After a variety of further (expensive) tests and procedures it was proven conclusively that I was not having a heart attack.

In retrospect one thing that was missing in my symptoms is that I was not at all short of breath. In fact when I consulted another doctor he tested my blood oxygen at 99%. Nor did I feel exhausted. Also I was missing missing some of common risk factors.

Hey folks you can quickly turn this around by juicing raw fruits and vegetables. Check out the movie “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.”

I just purchased a juicer not too long ago and boy what a difference. Plus it saves you on the vitamins. The Juicer I bought was $71 (Hamilton Beach Model 67650). There are better juicers but this one is pretty good per according to Consumer Reports.

There are a lot of ways to avoid heart attacks, Strokes and Cancer. The truth is hidden in plain view. Seek it and you will find it.

Years ago I was talking with a friend who was 45. For years he was an active long-distance bike rider, played raquetball. He said he was really exhausted lately. A couple weeks lately he keeled over dead at work.

“It’s been over 60 years since my prior confinement.”

Most guys in for heart problems are new to the hospital. They have only driven thru and picked up the baby. It is a little different when you are wearing the little gown that flaps open in the back. ;^)

Glad you made if through.

Female? I was taught that usually for women, their hormones protect them from arteriosclerosis, until menopause hits.

I’m sorry to hear this, rintense - my condolences.

Nope, guy. Coroner said it was a widow maker heart attack. There was nothing anyone could have done.
