Gingrich strikes another blow for Obama's re-election
National Post ^ | 1/22/2012 | Kelly McParland

If you were Barack Obama, or one of his advisers, you couldn’t ask for a greater gift than Newt Gingrich’s runaway victory in South Carolina. The Republicans will now be forced to spend the winter absorbing a cutthroat war between Gingrich and Mitt Romney, both forces pouring millions of dollars into high-profile media campaigns to tear down the other, rather than campaigning to defeat Obama next November.

Obama must love this. He barely has to campaign. Both Gingrich and Romney have demonstrated their willingness to be as nasty as it requires to tear down their rival. Now they’ll be going at it for weeks, or months, doing the Democrats’ job for them, and providing juicy material Democratic researchers might not even have been aware of.

The circular firing squad continues. We waste ammunition on each other, instead of attacking Hussein Obama.

Well Gingrich HAS been attacking Obama. But the other 2 seem to have a bad aim. Either they’re near-sighted or short-sighted.

Yes, just like the protracted battle between Clinton and Obama did so much to help McCain in 2008. Having the primary decided before 95% of he country has any input is much worse than a primary running strong for a cople months through super Tuesday.

“Obama must love this.”

No, he is having nightmares about the possibility of facing Gingrich.

You have to win the league championship before the super bowl.
We don’t need another milk toast.

I should take up the practice of writing about Canadian politics, a subject of which I am at least as ignorant as Mr. McParland is of American politics.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think it bothers too many people when Republicans are fighting amonst themselves. The length if time, imo, is a higher concern.

Newt can destroy MittWitt and Zero at the same time.

Precisely.
What's more, a high profile battle only keeps Gingrich's name front and center so that by the time the general election rolls around, even the densest mice of the mindless chattering class will know who he is and what he stands for.
It's "win-win".

There are many who will join the fight—the MSM will take Mittens side to destroy Newt before he upsets the apple cart. IF Newt gets the nod it will be a real long shot—I fear the lies and slander will not be enough and they will be reduced to taking Newt out with a bullet—he better watch his back or he could end up like George Wallace.

Newt has to defeat the GOP elites, the MSM, and MittWitt all at the same time. Newt’s just the guy that can do it too.

All of the pundits are desperate for the status quo to continue, and they all agree amongst themselves that Gingrich has no chance to beat Obama. They don't know anyone who would vote for Gingrich, but then again, they don't know many people outside of D.C. who isn't a progressive or a Rino.

Gingrich has been attacking the press for shielding Obama and the public is well aware of this fact as was witnessed Thursday.

I'm thinking of investing in Clorox and Febreze as the sheer number of exploding heads over the next several months will have to be cleaned up by someone!

Kelly, we’re in this position because the Republican Establishment has forced Mitt Romeny on us as THE GOP CHOICE.

Washington does not have the answers. The sooner the GOP Establishment figures that out, the sooner we get someone as a candidate who can actually solve the problems.

Getting very tired of this conventional wisdom.

Let’s assume Romney coasted through. He would be blindsided by the all out leftist attack.

Whoever emerges wil be red in tooth and claw from the nomination process and ready for more in the general.

Obama thinks he can play the same old hits and maybe he can with his idiot supporters but he has grown comfortable, even lazy, in office. Even he doesn’t believe what scrolls across his prompter screen and despite his fervent wishes he has an abysmal record to defend.

So true. This is just typical primary goings on every 4 years. Barry and Hillary were in a death duel and it all turned out fine. This article is a bunch of crapola. The primary this year is no nastier than normal. It will all get sorted out, we will nominate a candidate and they will win the election.

This could be the "don't throw me in the briar patch" trick.
Kind of reminds me of the celebration in the Jimmy Crater white house and tinkling of the grape juice glasses when Ronald Reagan was winning the nomination in 1980. After all, he "couldn't possibly win" either!
