Gingrich's attacks on the MSM - for thier bias & protection of Obama - are resonating so well that the MSM has adapted a new party line to try to negate these attacks and defeat Gingrich. Politico played from the same script yesterday with their article "Newt Gingrich and the press: Secret pals" The claim is as follows:
Gingrich does not avoid the media, but engages them, so they "love" each other or are "secret pals."

Romney avoids them and does not engage them so they do not like each other.

We should ignore the intense hostility the MSM has shown to Gingrich and ignore how he bloodies them in these encounters. They would instead have us believe that the General who has no fear of the enemy, who seeks out and engages that enemy should NOT be trusted; and that we should instead trust the General who avoids that enemy.

But the writer of this article betrays himself in the following excerpt:

By contrast, Romney very rarely engages with reporters - which makes a lot of sense in terms of message discipline but can lead to frustration within the media and accusations of being a programmed "Romneybot". Strangely enough, in this respect he is a little like Barack Obama, who in the 2008 campaign hardly ever yukked it up with reporters in the way Gingrich does.

I listened to the NPR story this morning about the race. It was all about Romney, and how he’s now attacking Gingrich on his resignation as house speaker and what he’s been doing the last 15 years. And how much of Gingrich’s side did we get? A couple of short quotes.

Think about this within the context of the story: Gingrich pulled off a huge shellacking of Romney.

If that story wasn’t biased toward Romney, there is no media bias.

And in my 50 minute drive to work, I got to hear that story, in it’s entirety, twice.

The newser long knives are out in full force on Newt ...

Let's face it, Newt would be damned if he did try to get along with the jerks, and damned if he didn't.

Black is white
White is black
War is peace
and slavery is really freedom.

Welcome to the logic of the drive by media.

They will do anything to defeat Gingrich, even sticking him as "buds" with the media because they know the people despise them.

If Newt is regarded as a close friend of the media, then Newt will suffer some of the disgust the people feel towards the media.

When Newt takes on the media, it is really not Newt taking them on, eh? The drive by media basically asks the question, "who are you going to believe, the lib/commie media or your own lying eyes and ears?"

You could also say freerepublic also loves the press because 90% of all threads begin with press stories such as this one. If it wasn’t for the press, FR would only consist of blog pimps and vanities.

The media loves Newt? Are there that many voters who weren't alive in the 90's?

It ain’t about Newt vs. Mitt or FoxNews vs. CNN. It’s about the media trying to milk as much money from all the campaigns as possible. For them and their ratings, there’s nothing better than a long drawn-out fight with lots and lots of time being purchased. Operation Chaos II and I’m supposed to get energized? Pfffttt.... Sorry, seen it before. The party that self-destructs the least, wins.

WOW - Trump on F’nF. He is praising Newt and you should see the expressions on Kilmeade’s and Carlson’s faces. Doocey asking decent questions.

So GRetchen says - doesn’t Romney’s cool, calm & collected demeanor help.

What a tanker she is!!!!

If the democrat controlled media (as another Freeper put it) is really in love with Gingrich, they have a strange way of showing it. And if they truly dislike Romney, they have an even stranger way of showing that. The bottom line is that whatever their personal feelings, on a professional level they have tried to take out Gingrich while defending and promoting Romney at every chance. It's just that while most candidates would have wilted under such an avalanche of "love" by the media, Gingrich has thrived on it, has bested the media at their own game.

Establishment Republicans should be taking notes instead of turning their knives on Gingrich. For this is how you deal with the media. You expose their biases by hitting back when they hit you. If enough Republicans were to do this, it might finally force the media to back off, to become defensive rather than always going on the offensive.

It's high time to let Republicans know they should worry more about currying our favor instead of the media's, instead of always cowering before them or trying to win their love by turning tail to the left. And in my opinion the best way to do this is to keep voting for Gingrich, keep sending a loud and clear signal that this is who we want Republicans to emulate when it comes to taking on Obama and his many cohorts in the media. And if they do, we'll reward them by showing up and voting for them in droves. But if they don't, we just might not bother to keep showing up.

Does this explain Reagan’s success? His “love affair” with the media? Yeah, I saw that every time he got into it with Sam Donaldson.

The scm/msm "loves" anyone and anything that gives them an audience and ratings.

Newt is waaaay better than Mitt for sound bites and follow up stories.

So yeah, they love Newt, just like they love a tornado or a hurricane or anything that will entice someone to listen to them, watch them or read them.
