Gingrich Mocks Romney's "Self-Deportation" Plan For Illegal Immigrants
The Washington Post ^ | January 25, 2012 | Amy Gardner and Rosalind S. Helderman

Posted on 01/25/2012 1:00:13 PM PST by truthkeeper

MIAMI — Former House speaker Newt Gingrich on Wednesday mocked as an “Obama-level fantasy” Mitt Romney’s plan to deal with illegal immigration by encouraging “self-deportation.”

Gingrich made the comment as he began a day of outreach to Florida’s Hispanic voters with an extensive interview on Spanish-language television and a speech at Florida International University in which he called for a more a forceful U.S. role in ending communist rule in Cuba, as well as an overhaul of U.S. economic policies toward all of Latin America.

In an interview with the Univision network, Gingrich said it was unrealistic for millions of illegal immigrants in the United States to voluntarily leave the country, as Romney, his chief rival for the Republican presidential nomination, suggested in a debate Monday ahead of Florida’s Jan. 31 primary. Gingrich, who upset the GOP race by decisively winning Saturday’s South Carolina primary, also used a question about the immigration issue to get in a few digs at the former Massachusetts governor over his wealth and tax returns.

“You have to live in a world of Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Island accounts and automatic $20 million income for no work to have some fantasy this far from reality,” Gingrich told Univision interviewer Jorge Ramos. “For Romney to believe that somebody’s grandmother is going to be so cut off that she is going to self-deport, I mean this is an Obama-level fantasy.”

Nobody is talking about taking away Romney’s money. In fact, Newt proposes no cap gain tax for everyone and not just the middle class. Romney’s tax plan is the one with class warfare, not Newt’s.

But if all Romney has going for him is his record at Bain then it’s not much there.

Newt doesn’t disapprove of self-deportation—don’t be absurd.

But it’s sheer fantasy to think that self-deportation alone is going to address the problem as a whole.

Still at it I see. We both agree that attrition through enforcement works. And there is no need to legalize the status of those that remain. We just make our country as inhospitable to lawbreakers as we possibly can including shutting off the job magnet, checking the immigration of those on lawful stops, cutting off all benefits etc. No amnesty period.

Today is National Remembrance Day for Americans Killed by Illegal Aliens--November 6, 2011

More than 50,000 Americans have been killed by illegal aliens since 9/11.

Think about that.

More than 6,000 U.S. troops have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since that same date. But nearly ten times that number have been killed right here at home as a consequence of the Federal government’s failure to secure our borders and protect its citizens, in direct violation of the Constitution’s Article IV Section 4:

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

More than 50,000 dead as a direct result of this violation. Yet the media ignores the victims. And politicians don’t recognize the loss of tens of thousands of families.

But today We The People remember.

Today is National Remembrance Day for Americans Killed By Illegal Aliens. A coalition of groups fighting against illegal immigration, including Stand With Arizona, the FIRE Coalition, and Congressmen Steve King (R-IA) and Walter Jones (R-NC) have joined together to recognize this day in honor of the victims.

Instead of going back many will move into crime, drug dealing, illegal gambling, prostitution.

You have to physically ship them out.

They already are. I should know, I'm surrounded by them.

Some birds will still stay in your yard if you take the bird feeder down

Great analogy!

Exactly.

Of course, then one starts risking backlash against mass deportations.

The problem isn't as simple as some like to think it is.

A lot of them are self deporting from Alabama.

Without getting into the political fight between Romney and Gingrich, the key to stopping illegal immigration is to deny access to employment and basic services. If you can't get a job and you can't get electricity, water, gas, etc., then you will go somewhere else.

The lowest impact across the board would be the creation of a guest agricultural worker program, which would allow the seasonal hiring of workers without their families. Then phase in a requirement that all employees be run through e-Verify.

I am unaware of any candidate who is saying that self-deportation, i.e., attrition thru enforcement alone, will solve the problem.

Somebody needs to inform Newt of the cold, hard facts ~ WE DON’T WANT THEM. They have homes they can go to. We don’t.

It's not "fantastical" at all. Frankly, you guys who imagine that we can't stop employing illegal aliens really have it all wrong. We have 26 million unemployed Americans.

It's time to cut off the gravy train. Send them back. Let them take their cars and trucks with them.

THANK you.

In 2006 I had a room addition built. My BF, who was the general contractor, said the two local Home Depots were ringed with illegals on all sides. They would practically jump into their truck every time he and his crew pulled into the lot for supplies. As of last year, he said there are only about a dozen of them hanging around the lots. Due to our lousy economy, their numbers have been greatly reduced.

The process of self-deportation has, in fact, already begun.

That is because no candidate is proposing self-deportation only.

Best bet is to let mechanization, automation, improved methods, computerization and robotics continue the effort to come up with farming without people.

We came out of the paleolithic into the neolithic with almost no one farming. Human beings simply aren't made for it.
