Thanks to Dan Riehl for this.
Theres a short excerpt of a 1988 C-SPAN video purportedly showing Newt Gingrich bashing Reagan when talking about how Bush, Sr. should run. As I suspected, its edited to give a false impression. What you dont see is immediately after when Gingrich praises Reaganism and the Reagan platform. If you cant watch it all, it begins at about 2:30 in to confirm its the same segment. Its the minute or two afterward you also need to hear to understand that Newt wasnt bashing Reagan at all.

I agree with all that you have written, above.
And you're a liar. Last time I saw you use that line the poster you were attacking thought you were Jims daughter. And you let that stand.
You're a coward.
Hardly. I confronted you on your posting ignorance. Or is it on purpose?
yes they have
You ever lived up in the north east and the beltway?
Trust me it is an area which is very different to us down here and he midwest .
There is a freeper who lived most of their life up in DC and they said they thought the beltway was true America and they admitted that once they got out of there they saw another country and understood that the beltway and the north east are very different.
The establishment and the likes of Coulter who has been shilling for Romney for over a year has always has a screw loose and yes many of these pundits you refer to do go to cocktail parties and yes they do hang around with the elitist.
How can Jonah be “wrong” when he’s quoting people he spoke with in person? Sorry, but I’m going to believe my lying eyes on this one, not you or the lying RINO from Taxachusetts.
Rush took off his mask today trying to destroy Newt all day. He’s in the tank for Romney.
LOL, good idea to post it there but I wouldn’t have claimed Newt said it. This must be how those e-mail chain letters get started where someone’s writings get credited to the wrong guy. I’ll be happy though if Newt wants to claim he said it and put it in his stump speech. Better yet use it in the debates and try for another standing o.
I thought about it before posting. I pondered and figured... if it's okay to publish news stories of bogus statements that Newt never said NOR would he ever say then it must be okay to post Newt statements he may not have said but would say if he had thought of them.
Maybe tonight in the debate he will think of it.
If he does, I hope the moderator deletes this conversation. LOL!
[The people “backing Romney” (1) don’t believe he’s anything but a true conservative ]
geez, maybe they should take a look at his liberal record then.
Your college major must have been "ignorance", you're soaking in it.
I've been listening to Rush everyday faithfully since the beginning of this whole campaign and personally it's almost obvious that Rush prefers Newt over all of them. He cannot endorse Newt because he does not want to endorse someone and have them end up making a major gaffe or losing the nomination. You can also sense that he does not like Romney. But again, if Romney wins he will get behind the Republican nominee.
Rush wants to avoid being responsible for choosing the nominee. He does not want the nominee to appear to be "annoited".
But Rush also has a radio show to do and the bogus stories are the news of the day. For him to ignore them would make him appear to be on Newt's side (which I think he is as a voter in Florida).
Rush almost had to report the stories and I noticed he showed some reservations as to whether or not he should believe them.
All in all, I think Rush approached them in the right way.
For some reason Jonah is against Newt and he’s a gifted writer. He’s wrong, but I still love him and I refuse to believe he’s a shill or a RINO or anything else but wrong.
You consistently use the Are you tattling on me to Dad line and lead posters to believe you are his daughter.
Your posts are nothing but insults and lack any intellectual substance. You have brought NOTHING to this discussion. I have NEVER seen you give a thoughtful response.
My very first post on Free Republic, back before Jim required posters to register, was in defense of Newt Gingrich and I was flamed from one end of this forum to the other. Just about EVERYONE posting here at that time screamed at me that "Newt's NO conservative!!!"
I was pro-Newt before being Pro-Newt wasn't cool.
Newt was starting to draw crowds like Palin...I think your right, he doesn’t like Newt too much...My only problem with newt is sometimes he doesn’t know when to shut up after he makes a good point..But he is the best of a nasty field left...I was for Cain....I cannot imagine Santorum as CIC. He will be eaten alive by the middle east leaders..
But calm down, you're getting hysterical.
Hehe. Well I just don’t want them to delete it from Facebook if they realize it’s an incorrect quote. I did send it to the contact form on Newt.org earlier. It sounds somewhat similar to what Newt said on Hannity last night (that the elites have every reason to be afraid of a Newt Gingrich presidency because he is going to change the way Washington works), but I pumped up the populism a bit. So it wouldn’t be surprising if he ended up saying something similar anyway. To me the best way to win is to turn your negative into a positive or turn the other guy’s positive into a negative (basically what they did with the Bain ads). That gets the two-birds-with-one-stone effect.
Rush is in the tank for Santorum.
I haven’t read all his stuff but he seems pretty balanced on Newt from what I read. He said he’s a “high-risk, high-reward” candidate. That seems to place him squarely in the middle of those who think he’s all-risk or all-reward.
“This nation is in a world of hurt, and I did not find Rush the least bit entertaining today.”
I don’t think I can disagree with a word you said.
Santorum would hide under his desk if challenged.
