Of all the stories we have published on Seneca Daily, the story of the teen being arrested in Waterloo for throwing a snowball is probably the last one you would think might get picked up by the national press. We think we run a number of vastly more interesting and important stories.
We ran a news release supplied by the Waterloo Police Department. Perhaps we should have tried to unearth the full story before we ran it, but in our defense, we generally run news reports from law enforcement agencies pretty much they way they are given to us.
We honestly dont know the full story, but we tend to think there must have been some reason throwing a snowball even a snow ball that caused redness and pain would actually escalate to an arrest.
Fox News has shown no interest in digging any deeper. It seems to fit their interests to paint anything government officials do, even our police men and women, as stupid or worse.
We think the Waterloo PD would always act with professionalism, and doubt they did anything less in this particular case. We arent very happy that a local news story we ran is being used by national media in a way that makes our local police officers look bad.
Wed much rather people read about our wine trails, our community rallying to support the Ticconi and Dickenson Families, our people and our communities. Those are the reasons we started Seneca Daily News in the first place, and they are the stories worth sharing with the nation.
Almost reads like either: (a) the local site's editors are libs and just don't like the idea of "Faux Republinazi Corporate News" picking up on their lazily put together work product; (b) the local Barney Fife's have paid them a visit over making them look bad.
The mayor and police chief must have chatted with them at the weekly cocktail party and threatened to give them no more access.
In other words, don't worry about the erosion of individual liberties and freedom. Have a good time on the wine trail instead!
Don't worry, be happy!!
Dear Editor. I doubt I’d bring my family to Seneca falls to see your wine trails or to learn of the support for the Ticconi and Dickenson Families. But I sure WOULD bring them to be able to say “Look, kids! There’s the PD that arrested that kid for throwing a snowball that caused a red leg!” You’ve got a huge tourism opportunity right under your noses. If I were in your shoes, I’d immediately build a statue of a kid throwing a snowball to commemorate the event.
Only bureaucratic drones use the word "escalate" that way. The small town power elite must have put out the word they don't want their sandbox known nationally for the wrong thing. Children.
The police had no choice but to respond to the complaint.
My post was in reference to the poor horribly injured victim of this horrendous crime.LOL
The story was probably picked up by the National media because of it’s being unusual. It isn’t every day that somone swears out an arrest warrant for a snowball.
Blaming Fox for being lazy; it's the other guys fault ploy. Indeed they would rather stick with drinking that awful Taylor Wine than do any real work.
