PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (AP) — Rick Santorum is tired, almost broke — and going home.

The former Pennsylvania senator is taking a pause from Florida campaigning just days before the Tuesday primary that even he expects to deal him a third consecutive loss.

Santorum endorsed Arlen Specter for the party.

I doubt he would show independence of mind to buck that mindset.

he has no money,

he has failed to connect,

his message was simply not communicated,

good or bad it does not matter, he is done.

Newt endorsed DeDe Scuzzyfuzzy.

I think they are about even on that.

But...I don’t think Santorum has the funds to carry on much longer.

To: ScottinVA; Lady Lucky

Hello all, I wanted to share some information Lady Lucky posted on another thread earlier this morning. It has several addresses to contact, and I took the liberty to send the note below to 3 of them. Maybe we FReepers can help TeamSantorum see another way.

Santorum’s contact info is here:
http://www.ricksantorum.com/contact-us

I pray that it does not fall on deaf ears : |

“”Please sir, I ask you to consider the future of our nation.

I have no doubt Mr. Santorum, of your deep love for this great nation, but I ask you please, to consider it’s future. We are witness sir, to the battle, not only for the presidency of these United States, but for the control of the Republican party, between the established Republican elite, (who got us INTO this mess), and the Tea Party Americans who powered the groundswell of REAL change in 2010. That change has been fought ruthlessly by the establishment Republicans ever since, and now we watch as they advance THEIR choice for president in Mr. Mitt Romney.

I believe very strongly that there is a future for you sir, at the national level, but I believe just as strongly that this year, is not the year. Please, for the nation, consider bowing from the race; as Governor Perry did; and begin immediately to work with Speaker Gingrich in order to help the American people remind both the media, and the Republican elite that WE will choose our representatives, and that they serve US.

There is no margin for error in this endeavor, sir. We must repeat the message sent from the patriots in South Carolina to the enemies of our freedom. We must send it again in Florida. I am genuinely fearful, that if we do not defeat the Left AND the republican elite, soundly and now, that there will be no future for any of us who love the ideals that this great nation was founded upon.

Please. Meet with Speaker Gingrich now, and forge a plan together, to defeat Mr. Romney. For America and for all of our futures. Both you and Speaker Gingrich share a love for this great nation, and for it’s Founders, and know that they were men with wide ranging viewpoints and beliefs, but remember that they never allowed their differences to put their common goal at risk.

Thank you for listening, and I pray that you will give my words serious thought.

May God bless and keep you, and may He give each of us the strength, the wisdom and the courage, to see this through.””

May God give us strength.
Tatt

well, PA isn’t exactly Texas, you know.

Yeah, but it IS two states! Philadelphia on one end and Pittsburgh on the other end, with West Virginia in the middle... :0)

The complete NASA speech was about reinvigorating NASA in order to foster the type of practical science that happened with the Moon landing program.

Obama gutted NASA in the name of ROP.

With last night’s weak Newt performance versus Santorums’s strength, albeit enabled by his non-involvement in the Newt/Mitt match, I think that it is helpful that Santorum stay in the fray for awhile. Santorum took on Romney strongly, which is more than Newt seems to be capable of. Were it not for winner-take-all states, I would have no reservation about Santorum staying in for the duration. But the loss of Florida’s fifty delegates is not too significant. The concern is stopping Mitt’s momentum. If Newt and Santorum, together, aggregate considerably more than Mitt, that should take some shine off Mitt’s Florida apple. Meanwhile, it is very helpful to have Santorum in there hitting Mitt at every available opportunity. This is in line with Gov. Palin’s comment that she wants the race to stay open as long as possible. Where this all goes in the long run, I have no clear sense, but Santorum can buy us some time.

Santorum is making a political calculation.

By not dropping out he does hurt gingrich.

and

1. He makes it to the VP short list.

and / or

2. He makes it to a cushy cabinet job.

and /or

3. He can be on a short list and as a back up use that short list status to sell himself as a lobbyist and keep the access doors open. (see mitt I did not help newt)

and / or

4. hoping for that abasador to japan job like mondull.

tia

Newt is a pragmatist and tailors his message to his audience. He deals just fine with contradictions in positions, see what I am saying?

Today he doesn’t like national health care, but for the past 20 years he did.

That's beside the point. The damage Santorum has done, will be irreparable. Santorum was well known as a big spending Washington Insider in the Senate, and he is helping Romney by staying in. Even worse, he knows it.

And Santorum’s ignorant following are not capable of seeing this for what it is. The result is, we get Romney by default.

Santorum’s wife wasn’t there. Maybe there is a problem with one of the kids or something.

There is no benefit to offering Rick Perry the Vice Presidential position. The GOP has won Texas, usually with big margins, in every election since 1980. His recent run for the Presidency has not benefitted his popularity in the Lone Star State.

There is a reason leaders employ vote splitters, they work.

Huckabee and Thompson were used to good effect to give us McCain.

Obama will use some useful idiot (tump?) to split votes.

The DNC is known to contribute to the constitution party to attract useful idiot voters.

The "moderator" scored the biggest hit on mittens with that ad.

You must be reading the Dallas Morning News. Rick Perry would win governor again if he chose to run, but I don’t think he will.

I’m actually not for that ticket. I don’t think Perry would accept the veep post and it’s a weak position which he’s often said.

The only reason for veep is to gain some vote so your theory that he would get Perry votes anyway is valid.

I’m hoping that Perry gets an offer for a meaningful job like Secretary of Energy. He just might take it.
