Their first and only date was an innocent stroll through Central Park.
But when an Upper East Side woman rejected her running-club pals bid for an encore, the creep lost his mind and embarked on an 18-year reign of terror stalking her through six states as she desperately tried to escape his reach.
I was terrified of him, Linda Arnaud, 45, told The Post of twisted Queens native Moses Shepard, who last week was finally found guilty of federal stalking charges.
He showed up at my place of work. He showed up at my school, at my apartment he showed up on the subway platform. He stalked me all over New York City.
The frightened elementary-school teacher-turned-yoga instructor spent two decades moving to New Mexico, Arizona, California and Connecticut praying that each stop would be her last.
He always found her bombarding Arnaud with phone calls, e-mails, letters, CDs and porn, according to prosecutors.
When Arnaud got restraining orders, Shepard would wait until they expired and then renew his sick fantasy of reuniting with her.
Finally, in 2010 with Arnaud living in Connecticut Shepard sent her a death threat that shook her to the core.
He said hes coming for me. And thats when I feared for my life, Arnaud said.
He came here; he scoped out my house; he scoped out my work, she said. Hes never taken no for an answer.
Cops got an arrest warrant and alerted the FBI and Shepard was finally arrested at his Arizona home in May 2010.
Last week, he was convicted by a federal jury, but faces only a maximum of five years in prison.
I hope that justice is served and that theres more awareness that stalking is a serious crime, Arnaud said.

That’s Bill Nye the Science Guy — not the stalker.
She should have just shot the bastard ...
Smart ass? No. Dumb ass? Well, I'll let the world decide on that one... ;)
Move to Texas.
Step 2
Get carry license.
Step 3
Shoot bastard.
Step 4
Move wherever you want.
Shouldn't have taken more than a few weeks at most.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
He probably just wanted to make sure she had his right phone number, since she hadn’t called.
Plenty of time for her to move to a shall issue or better state and get really proficient with the handgun of her choice.
&&&
Wonder why she never thought of that over those 18 years.
And that's when I put two in his chest and one in his head and that was the end of the matter.
More fun to be a victim, I guess. Either that, or the usual brainwashing to trust the government.
Unrelated to this case but in a similar vein I had a girlfriend who was dealing with an attractive, successful, otherwise decent guy who was deeply infatuated with her right up to the line of stalking her.
I told her that if she wasn’t going to marry him that I would.
They’ve been married for three years, she is a live-at-home mom of two, and he completely adores her and she’s the happiest of all of my friends.
I know some of these guys are creepy, but sometimes it’s Mr. OMG.
When I was single I don’t think I would have complained if George Clooney were stalking me.

You got sumpin against Silk Stalkings?
Corny...
Liberal who thinks 0 will save her.
“I know she moved from state to state, but I see her in the same postion of a battered spouse who wont leave her husband.”
Have you ever taken a course in logic? If a “battered spouse” MOVES TO ANOTHER STATE to get away, she HAS left her husband. You wanna rethink that?
“She just never had the guts to do the right thing.”
It’s not on her to mete out justice to a crazy criminal! A society that can’t or won’t protect women and children is a society in decline — and ours is.
BTW, the guys who keep braying that “she should just get a permit and shoot him” — are the ones who are too lazy or chicken-sh** to protect women and children — which is the job of MEN.
America’s law enforcement and justice system failed this woman. It’s not on her.
You will find this article in line with those very thoughts.
If he never threatened her, which he didn’t for 18 years, and observed restraining orders until they expired, she would be charged with murder or manslaughter in any state.
She might get off through jury nullification, but how many years of stalking should she endure first? Eighteen years would likely get her some “not guilty” votes, but what if she shot the bastard after two or three years?
His stalking her would seem to me to be threat enough. Besides, who are you going to believe, her or a corpse?
