Good Conservative Source for News to replace Drudge? (Vanity)

Posted on 01/30/2012 5:58:10 AM PST by crosshairs

I would like ideas for a good central source for news now that Drudge has his lips firmly attached to Romney's ass. I want to take Drudge off of my Favorites list.

“It may be because of the weekend, but Drudge’s numbers dropped from 30 million as of the 28th, to...21.7 million as of the 30th.”

Do you think he noticed? Or cares?

If his ad money dries up, he’ll notice.

4 ads on his site now:
—2 for Allstate
—1 for monster.com
—1 saying “Sarah Votes For Newt”—links to a Newsmax piece, “Sarah Palin: Newt ‘Crucified’ by Romney Allies, GOP Establishment”

The best thing that I have done in many years was to get rid of the TV and use FR for 95% of my news. There is life after TV.

I have visited Hot Air many times per day for years and they are DECIDEDLY pro-Mitt! You would be hard pressed to find very many negative posts about Mitt but TONS of negative posts about Newt. And their open enrollment a month ago seemed like it gained nothing but Mitt supporters. I can’t stomach reading any of the comments.

Face it guys, the most important aspect of freerepublic’s web site is the fact that there are no pictures for the most part. This enables freepers the ability to keep the site up during the day, and arouses little suspicion from people who walk by the office. I have been reading freerepublic now for 15 years, and probably hit it 15 to 20 times a day. I love the just text attributes, and would be saddened to see it replaced by your typical news site like all the rest. Please be careful what you wish for!

Orusmax covers essentially Northwest news, but it is a very good site.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Twitter. No other destination has the breadth of news/information, including and especially breaking, than it does.

Alas, it has no "siren," but you learn to recognize when something's urgent or important all by yourself.

I no longer even think about Drudge--no bookmark to his site. I'm not mad. I just don't care. The world of information has changed and he has not.

The problem is, I think, that every time someone lands on one of these sites it enhances that site, whether it be for actual $$$ or just their position ranking in search engine optimization algorithms.

WND sucks. They regurgitate old news and if you subscribe, they’ll never take you off their mailing list and your mailbox will be full of mail from them.

They are online to SELL books. IMHO

I'm pretty sure you're correct about that, and it's definitely something that goes into the equation. It's all where you draw the line, I think - example: I won't EVER pay for a subscription to NYT, but I'll look at free content from them. To me, it's just so important to get a fix on what "others" are thinking, reading, hearing, etc.

I think The Blaze is the best. Beautiful, professional-looking conservative news site, lots of pics and videos, and pretty good reader feedback if you can ignore the trolls. And Before Its News is good too, but they lean more toward conspiracy news and survivalism. And there’s so much content there that it’s overwhelming.

Thanks for recommendation...I have ad pop-up/adblockers before and supposedly my cable/broadband/Net connection tries to block some of them. May try out. Though I think it might not work on certain things (like the ads in front of videos on youtube and other sites). I may have to temp. disable an adblocker when installing software, etc. but that’s no big deal. Again, may try...
