Romney Explains Why He Can't Beat Obama
The American Spectator ^ | 30 Jan 12 | David Catron

Posted on 01/30/2012 6:08:58 AM PST by xzins

The most telling moment of the debate was (Romney's) response to Rick Santorum's eloquent explanation of Obamacare's importance to the GOP's strategy ...and why giving Romney the nomination would be ...surrendering the high ground on health reform: "Folks, we can't give this issue away in this election. It is about fundamental freedom." ...Romney then uttered the most revealing words of the debate: "First of all, it's not worth getting angry about."

Obama's recent State of the Union address contained only three references to his "signature domestic achievement." This is, as Michael Barone puts it, "the strongest evidence possible" that the President sees Obamacare as "a millstone around the neck of his campaign."

After becoming Governor of Massachusetts... he signed a health reform law that later became the model for Obamacare.

Romney would also have us believe that he will repeal Obamacare in its entirety. ... During a recent interview one of Romney's most important advisors said, "We're not going to do repeal…You can't whole-cloth throw it out...."

Romney's affinity with Democrat positions has not been limited to health reform, of course. He has, for example, often agreed with them on Second Amendment rights.

...abortion. He has changed his position on that issue at least three times....he said, "I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country.... Now... he's again "pro-life." How he avoids vertigo while executing so many pirouettes is anyone's guess.

It will, however, be very easy for Obama ...to exploit Romney's flip-flops...The reporters and bloggers ...will be reciting White House talking points. One wonders if, after his resultant loss in November, Romney will find this "worth getting angry about."

“One wonders if, after his resultant loss in November, Romney will find this “worth getting angry about.”

I plan on hunting down the nearest Romney supporter and laughing in their face.

If ever we need a rallying cry.

Romney sucks, Newt’s not much better but whoever gets the nomination vote for them. First stop the bleeding then fix the rest.

I don’t buy this notion that Utah is the most conservative state in the country. How can they claim that when they routinely elect politicians like Orrin Hatch and Jon Huntsman?

I still contend that the words "Not worth getting angry about...." are the albatross around Romney's neck for either the Republican nomination, or the general election.

I'd be running as many ads as I could afford saying that this is Romney's position on Obama-care, with that clip direct from Romney's mouth. It was very much in context, and EXACTLY how he feels about it. It is a salient point that will be the nail in his coffin, now or later.

Well said! I’m so SICK of the talking head inside-the-beltway establishment types dictating to us who can and can’t win. These know-nothings may have gotten away with it in 2008 by nominating that liberal lamebrain John McCain, but they’re not going to get away with it this year... Not without a massive fight anyway.

This pretty much sums up where we are at this point.

Right now we may have both our first “black” president and our first Muslim president, in addition to first “gay” president (I’m aware of claims that others like James Buchanan may have already taken that title), first America hating, and first fascist president.

if the establishment, FOX, Drudge and others who are only see an R at the end of the name think for one minute that many of us here will vote for Romney then they have another thing coming

I will never vote for Romney nor will any of my family and I know a few freepers off here and I can guarantee that they will not vote for him either.

The way the establishment, the RNC and Romney have acted with their lies and attacks has been disgusting.
Romney is no different to obama and if you or anyone who thinks Romney is a good republican then show me 5 just 5 issues where Romney is different to obama.

Romney said he will not repeal obamacare,
for the homosexual agenda, explains why Coulter and Drudge and Hume and other elitists from DC and the north east like Romney.
planned parenthood
no clue about the military
Big Govt
TSA, illegals, Amtrak, cutbacks to the military so much it will destroy us
wants open talks with Taliban
supports a VAT

There is no difference and I guarantee the RNC and the establishment think they can stick someone on the VP who will appeal to us and we’ll just go and vote like last time.

NO CHANCE THIS TIME WILL WE

Obama will be a 2nd term president because the base in my state of FL, CO, NV, AZ, NC, VA will be staying at home and then the establishment might actually get a frigging clue when they lose again

I am beginning to think also, that the Elites and Media are heavily invested in OBAMACARE, and stand to make a ton of money from it, hence Romney is their man. It is ripe for fraud, and another source of revenue (fines) to be used for their purposes.

No one really knows the depth of what obama/romneycare is up to, not in total. Only the insiders know.

Here’s a thought....and I had this same thought when the Republican Estabishment wanted McCain.....Does the Republican Establishment even WANT TO WIN??
I don’t think they do. Can’t beat the black guy...wouldn’t look good. Remember McCain pretty much saying he was PROUD that he lost to a black guy? Now I am NOT being racist here. I am just pointing out that there were so many things known about Barack Obama’s family and history but they didn’t use it. Now the ER’s want Romney because well, like them, he’s a candy as*! How about the guy who’s the Chairman of the RNC? HOW in the world did he get that post? He is complete softy! WOW!
The thing is...Romney CAN’T win without the conservatives and this conservative is not voting for him. I notice that Romney has been trying to look “strong” but now it comes across as completely fake. This whole election is becoming a big joke!

Rush Limbaugh has been repeatedly saying on his radio show that the GOP establishment is so out of touch that they actually believe Obama can’t be beaten. Therefore by pushing Romney as somewhat of a throw-away candidate, they’re hoping he at least has enough appeal with independents to help carry enough senate seats and swing the congressional majority back to the GOP. Good Lord, if this is an accurate depiction of the GOP’s strategy, then this is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE and the establishment needs to be brought down and replaced with Tea Party leadership. PERIOD.

How many people on this board blame Obama being elected POTUS, on people who decided not to vote for McCain?

Don’t vote for romney, and don’t waste your vote on ron paul. a vote for paul is a vote for romney.
Newt may not be perfect, but her can actually win, is a darn sight better than romney ever will be.

are you saying we should vote for Romney?

Because if you think we will then you have another thing coming.

You ignored my post much like the establishment has ignored us AGAIN.

Romney is no different to obama therefore voting for Romney is still voting for what obama wants the only difference is that different people will get kickbacks and pay offs.

The establishment can frigging lose for all I care if they have Romney because there is no difference so don’t bother saying we need to stop the bleeding,

The establishment opened the wounds, idiots like Coulter and her homosexual pals and talking heads did their dirty work against the more conservative candidates and for that they can lose their power and we’ll be ignoring them like they ignored us

If you haven't read this thread yet, check it out. It will confirm that your suspicions are correct. Great article, by the way. My elderly mom kept asking "who are these people, the GOP-e, Republican Establishment?" The article does a great job laying it all out - it's all about power, keeping control of the money, & destroying anyone who will interfere with them (like Newt).

Oh come on guys Mitt said he was going to cut waste in the Defense Department so he can pay for Obamacare. What’s wrong with that? LOL

I realize you commented with sarcasm. However, to answer the question on what is wrong with Romney cutting Defense spending - Obozo's already well on his way to gutting our defenses. Why would people vote for Romney, when Obozo's already doing a better job on cutting than Romney ever would? Romney can't beat Obozo.

Hi,
I ususally click to see someone’s profile if they mention Seattle or WA state. I suspect that there are other Microsofties on FR, but you’re the only 1 that has admitted it (that I’ve found so far). I’m one, too, so just thought I’d send a FReeper mail to say Hi!

Best,
SC
