Romney ridicules Gingrich on eve of Florida vote

(Reuters) - A confident Mitt Romney solidified his lead in Florida polls and ridiculed Republican rival Newt Gingrich on Monday, calling his opponent's attacks "sad" and "painfully revealing" the day before the state's crucial presidential primary.

Romney's self-assuredness was on full display during a campaign tour that felt at times like a victory lap, with the front-runner telling a crowd of 2,000 in Dunedin, Florida: "With a turnout like this I got a feeling we might win tomorrow."

"There's no question that politics ain't bean bags, and we have made sure that our message is out loud and clear," Romney said on NBC's "Today" show.

Gingrich, hit hard last week by a more aggressive Romney strategy, branded his rival as a party insider and elite friend of Wall Street while pledging to stay in the presidential race for the long haul no matter what the outcome in Florida.

"On big philosophical issues, he is for all practical purposes a liberal and I am a conservative and that's what this fight is going to be about all the way to the convention," he said of Romney on "CBS This Morning."

Romney shrugged off the continued Gingrich attacks, drawing cheers from the crowd when he said Gingrich was not doing too well and had been "flailing about."

"I know, it's sad isn't it?" Romney said, calling it "painfully revealing" and adding: "You've just gotta shake your head."

The bitter back-and-forth in Florida was hardly surprising after two turbulent weeks in what is widely considered the most volatile Republican race for the White House in recent memory.

Just 10 days ago, Romney was limping out of South Carolina, where he came in second. Now Florida is his for the taking after prominent conservatives and party ...

I can honestly say after this last two days that I dislike Mitt more than I dislike Obama. Obama is misguided, and was brought up to believe that Black Liberation Theology, or whatever, so he is a creature of his upbringing. I hate what he is doing to America, but Mitt is just an no class arrogant a**wipe.

Well, one thing is for sure, with Mitt “what you see is” ... what you see, and there is no more. In fact, I am sure there is less.

If I had to choose between Obama and Romney, it would be tough but, I’d go for Obama.

Michaek Reagan was just on Mark Levin a few minutes ago

He said that Ronald Reagan was part of the original TEA Rarty

He also said he couldnt understand why Romney is telling such lies about his father and Newt...

He said Romney was not around durinjg the Reagan years and is not mentioned at all in the Reagan diaries...

One of Romneys top campaign guys was fired by Reagan from his campaign..

“There’s no question that politics ain’t bean bags, and we have made sure that our message is out loud and clear,” Romney said on NBC’s “Today” show.

What message, Mr. Romney? Is it that you can spend millions of $ to character assassinate your chief rival? From what I’ve heard, your message is all about Newt Gingrich and not a word about your liberal crap as governor!

Mark my words...Romney wins the nomination, I’m not voting for president in 2012. I cannot vote for arrogant, liberal scum like Romney, even against President Obama. We’ll just have to hope a conservative senate and house will be able to restrain Obama, because I’ll be hoping for a Romney defeat.

What this country needs is a real choice, and Romney isn’t it. There’s no substantial distinction, in my opinion, between him and Obama. Romney will just bring his own group of insiders who will want their cut of government largesse. It’s probably cheaper to keep Obama in check with a Republican congress, than to elect Romney and his big government sycophants.

Romney’s flustered. He doesn’t ridicule unless he feels threatened.

It’s like Romney doesn’t understand that some Gingrich supporters might take that personally.

Someone with a thimble full of political sense would understand that and found a way to win without making enemies of people he is going to need to vote for him.

But Romney, the self indulgent twit that he is, just can’t help twisting the knife and gloating.

If he gets beat by Obama I know who I’m going to blame

What upsets me the most is that smug Mitt thinks he can toss some “conservative cookies” our way, once he has won the nomination, since he assumes he can carry the conservative vote.

If I have to vote for the destruction of our republic, our constitution, our values, who do I choose? The big O, or the vapid quisling, mitt?

I have a lot to ponder, friends.

We have "self-assuredness" in the White House now, and that kind of "self-assuredness" is really just arrogance spelled a different way.

I have gotten at least 2 mailings a day for 2 weeks from Romney and his supporters. They have all been nasty and negative and full of lies. There is no way I can vote for him. I hope there are more Floridians that feel the same way and will vote for Gingrich tomorrow.

Romney has exposed his hateful, vindictive self in the debates and in the last week of the Florida primary. I cannot stand to watch this man – much as I cannot stand to watch Obummer. Same is as same does.
