Allen West to Run for Re-Election in Different Congressional District
SharkTank ^ | Jan. 31, 2012 | by Javier Manjarres

Posted on 01/31/2012 3:56:14 PM PST by library user

The Shark Tank has learned that Congressman Tom Rooney has announced that he is running for re-election to Congress in one of Florida’s two newly created congressional districts, and that Congressman Allen West will run for re-election in Congressman Rooney’s 16th Congressional District.

The speculation will now begin as to which Republican will run in Allen West’s 22nd Congressional District. It is possible that either George LeMieux or Adam Hanser could abandon their Senate candidacies and run in the district, as both are from the area. The possibility exists that other current candidates for Congress in adjoining congressional districts could enter the fray as well.

He’s well known and I think he’s popular, at least amongst Conservatives, so I don’t foresee him having too much difficulty, if he chooses his district well.

Tom Rooney runs for seat outside the Treasure Coast; Allen West runs for seat

U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney won't run to represent the Treasure Coast in Congress in this election cycle, and U.S. Rep. Allen West has his eye on the newly drawn seat that stands to cover all of St. Lucie and Martin counties.

Rooney, R-Tequesta, announced he'll run for the proposed congressional District 17 this year, which touches 11 counties and stays largely in agricultural central Florida. That opens up the newly drawn proposed District 18 for West, R-Plantation, who said he'll vie for the Treasure Coast-centric seat in the upcoming election.

Rooney plans to move his family to Charlotte County to run for the new seat, said spokesman Michael Mahaffey.

The announcements stem from changes brewing in the Legislature's once-a-decade redistricting process, which has shaken up the congressional district scene in Treasure's Coast two southern counties........

both should be VOTED OUT. A congressman should represent the people of the district he lives in.. not be some carpet bagger.. this lowers my opinion on both of them.

This is a slap at the rowdy kid, maybe he should defy them and run for Senate, maybe roll over a couple RINO’s along the way.

This is so positive in my view. These areas are much more conservative than the district that Congressman West is in now. Adam Hassner will fit nicely into West’s district. Adam is familiar with the terrain as he was a state Rep and he is Jewish. The fit would be perfect. Too bad not going against Debbie WS. Now that would be a fight to watch, but Karen Hennigan is a good candidate to go up against DWS as well.

If its so easy to just move into a new district and run for office, maybe I will buy a house there!

The legislature redrew his district so it would be heavily Democrat.

I agree. I understand that the districts got redrawn but (see my joke post above) it shouldn’t be so easy as to just move into a new neighborhood merely to keep your buttocks in Congress! That is exactly akk basswards!

Generally it looks reliably Republican.

It had been Mark Foley's district and flipped Democrat from 07-09 on a margin of under 2%. McCain won there in '08. Rooney's won with 60% & 66% of the vote the times he's run.

I don't know how redistricting will shift the boundary but it's probably much better for West's chances of staying in congress.

I know, I heard him on the radio yesterday. He didn’t say anything about moving to a new district.

West and Rooney are the most conservative members of Florida’s Republican congressmen. As the Rinos in Florida targeted them both in redistricting, I’m guessing they worked out a deal and the Rinos are going to be pissed.

I agree with you, but these times call for desperate measures to keep someone of West’s caliber. How many Wests do you think the 18th has right now - let alone the entire country? If there’s another one like him, well let him/her run as well in the primary. The best one wins.

I can tell you this. I would love to HIJACK West and bring him up here to carpetbag my Jersey 1st District and beat the crap out of Commie Rob Andrews! I would do that in 1 micro sec if I could.

If you mean that the district he’s choosing to run in is your district, great. Get the word out so people know to vote for him.

If you mean that your district got screwed, because it got split and redivided into other districts, I hope he’s still your congressman.

Karen Harrington you mean. She ran against DWS two years ago and came in under 8% against her. She has much more popularity and money this time helping her.

Alan was in a strange position in the first place, because of a very strange off-year redistricting his home was actually move two blocks or so outside of the district he’s currently representing. A fact Klein tried, unsuccessfully, to use against Alan during the 2010 elections.

With the left having judge shopped to find a liberal one who would throw out the GOP’s redistricting plans and really screwing Alan, this is a good choice for him as he’s well known and liked in the 16th with many of the people who live there having come out to help him in his election.

Interesting though about Hasner running; I don’t think that is going to play out. Hasner has his eye on the governors office and he would win and be a great gov for Florida.

That is interesting about Hasner. Didn’t know he was looking at Governors office.
I will stay tuned into that. I do believe that he has a snowballs chance of beating Bill Nelson in the Senate Race. That’s going to be a tough race whoever gets the nod.

No, the yahoo’s who re-districted him out of his district should be voted out....games are played with redistricting.
