Well,..if Romney wants a unified convention, then he will need to commit to those issues dear to conservatives, thus reversing and repudiating previous decisions.
Here’s the thing though, he needs to win the general election.
I believe that any candidate that openly says he will abort ObamaCare will have a very hard time winning the general election.
Honesty does not win elections - - read up on your Machiavelli. Newt has rounded up the angry conservative crowd, confirmed by the anger on this thread. That is not enough to win an election. He has some appeal with the independents, but that is not solid. It still does not give him enough. And Newt has ZERO appeal with the mild Democrats; the non-rabid Democrats that I have talked to respect Romney, but hate Gingrich.
In other words, the reason ‘real’ conservatives are happy with Gingrich is the reason why all Democrats and many independents hate him. Democrats will be inspired to vote against Newt, but not against Romney (IMHO).
To win, the Republican must focus on the economy and the debt. That’s the winner.
