In July 1996, Mitt Romney helped locate the missing teenage daughter of a partner at Bain Capital.

"In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared," the story reads. "She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to assist with the search. He established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York and asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter. Romney’s accountants at Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured every part of New York and talked with everyone they could – prostitutes, drug addicts – anyone.

"That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a home in New Jersey, where they found the girl in the basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later said the girl might not have survived another day. Romney’s former partner credits Mitt Romney with saving his daughter’s life, saying, ‘It was the most amazing thing, and I’ll never forget this to the day I die.’

Good for Romney! Too bad he’s still a filthy, lying liberal though.

This does not mean he is presidential material.

C'mon now. I can understand the animosity towards Romney here but let's not have a double standard. It is a guarantee that if such a story came out about a conservative like Rick Perry or Sarah Palin, we'd all be tripping over ourselves to rush here to post about it and herald this as an example of superior leadership and how this candidate is made of presidential timber. And we'd be right to do so as this story is an excellent example of what we look for in a president.

Now I'm not on the Romney bandwagon or anything but this story (also confirmed by Snopes.com) is a touching one and Romney clearly did good and one cannot imagine the current scumbag in the White House ever doing something like that.

Doesn't mean we have to vote for him for president but give him his proper due on this one.

My guess is that he asked his employees to volunteer...and probably then paid those who camne (and perhaps those who did not) their normal salary.

Apparently he shut down his entire business to help this man and his daughter and asked employees to help...and apparently a lot of employees helped.

Nothing wrong with this...and I appreciate the fact that others have had to dig this up and report on it and that he never, to my knowledge, has tried to use it to get others to respect or like him.

I had never heard of this story.

He still has the decisions he made in Mass and I do not like them...but I also realize he was governor of a state that had an 85% House and Senate that was dedicated DNC, so it is unlikely that he was going to get a lot done that you or I would jump up and down about. He did accomplish a few good things, and may well have kept other things from being worse...but he ran on the premise though that he was against abortion personally that he would uphold it as the law of the land if elected.

I would never have gotten elected there because4 I could not say or do such a thing.

Now he’s running for the GOP nomination and says things differently.

I am supporting Santorum or Newt and hope we can get one or the other of them in there by one or the other recognizing they have to stop and support the other. The collective conservative vote can still win out here.

But, if Romney is nominated, I will vote for him because I know that I (at least) have to do all in my power to keep Obama from a second term and will do nothing (like not voting or voting for some 3rd party) that would help Obama.

But that’s just me. HJaving said that, Romney is not the anti-Christ and would be far better than Obama.

But he is also my last resort with the GOP and I still think his nomination can be derailed.

I am not enjoying the meanness around FR.

You don't have to enjoy it, but you're still expected to participate enthusiastically in the Two Minutes Hate.

Outstanding post and I agree 100%. Unfortunately the thought process and reasoning of some here is barely beyond neanderthal so convincing them to disagree civily is going to be very difficult. There are some good arguments for not wanting Romney but just look at most of the posts concerning him and they are laced with F this and F you Romney and “vile”, etc. I prefer Santorum as my first choice but if Romney is the nominee I will vote for him. I will vote for any of them over Obama.

How in the world can he be a good man and have decent character when he instituted $50 abortions and supported homosexuals? Also, did you see today’s story? He tried to force Catholic hospitals to provide the abortion pill.

Mark Levin made an observation the other night...he said it’s funny how everyone sees a pleasant, smiling man when they look at Romney, and yet so many people who come to know him, hate him.

decent character

pro-abortion, pro-homosexual agenda - does not equal a decent character

This is where we have to disagree.

He was the chief executive. If he decided it was in the best interests of Bain to do this, he was within his rights to do it until the board told him not to. This is very much like what Ross Perot did in the famous Iran rescue.

If he thought that the long term interests of Bain (more loyalty, better morale, etc.) would benefit from this, then its a rational decision. Every day way too many CEO’s send their management to far more stupid seminars and retreats, and the notorious “team building” exercises.

Partners in such an organization also take orders. I have worked for accounting and consulting firms where the partners were assigned clients and were given detailed directions, and they did as they were told.

And what does it have to do with anything that the girl was related to a partner ? Nobody can save every damsel in distress. People help those close to them; if someone hesitates to do so because they can’t do the same universally, we would have a very low opinion of that person.

Yes, I would definitely like Mitt Romney better if he was hosting America’s Most Wanted instead of running for President. He’s already got the plastic personality of a tv host, so there wouldn’t be much of a learning curve there. Good plan.

[Mitt] called everyone Bain did business with in New York.

Ummm. That would be, what?, with underwriters, attorneys, PR firms, valuation companies, accounting firms, contultants, other private equity firms, and a few dozen other types of professionals, hundreds and hundreds of companies that Bain did company with in New York.

And Mitt called them? Personally, according to this?

And I understand this came from an email written apparently written by a Mitt supporter?

Hi Yaelle-

I try not to be mean or malignant; however, Romney has a history of having his minions run a vicious, nasty campaign behind the scenes; while Mitt stands before the cameras claiming to have no control of what is being done. He is a liar and a hypocrite.

This isn't just my opinion; both Sen McCain and Gov Huckabee complained about the viciousness of Romney's tactics in the 2008 GOP presidential primaries. Now they are supporting him. That is the level of duplicity that is being foisted upon us now by those who control the GOP.

Here in VA they have refused to allow anyone other than Romney and Ron Paul on the primary ballot; not even write-ins are allowed. All the other candidates filed suit to have their names put on the ballot and the Commonweath’s Attorney General tried to have the General Assembly meet in special session; but, Gov McDonnell (who endorsed Romney) and the state GOP squashed that effort.

Virginians have been disenfranchised; which is the worst form of repression and tyranny. So, yes, I am very angry w/Mitt Romney and the cabal who have “railroaded” us on his behalf. He is not a nice man and the network that supports him is both evil and un-American.

For the record, I have nothing against Mormons; I detest Romney for what he has done and continues to do; not his religion.

Take care,

-Geoff

“Bain Capital Founder Robert Gay, who was also a General Authority for the Mormon Church...”
... they sure do take care of their own.”

I noticed this when I researched this story. Also Huntsman now owns Bain Capital. He is Jon Huntsman father and is another Mormon. I wonder if all the partners were Mormon at Bain Capital.

Mitt said he did not inherit his money, but earned it. It looks to me like his Mormon contacts which he inherited from his father is where he got his start.

Okay, but he’s still a faggot loving, baby killing mormon, adopted bastard son of the GOP-e, lying lib POS.

The girl wasn’t found by anything Romney did.

The report of the missing girl was put on the news, boy calls in, cops trace call and the girl is saved.

Now John Kerry, there is the real hero... did you know that he went to Vietnam and on super double secret missions.

Was this even’t seared.... seared into Romney’s memory??

“Romney seems be a good man, bright, able to run things, decent character.”

The $50.00 abortion, pro-homo, gun grabbing, socialist healthcare guy? That’s decent character?

Yeah, Romney’s swell.
