What We Can Learn About Planned Parenthood From Komen
LifeNews.com ^ | 2/6/12 | Chuck Colson

Posted on 02/06/2012 2:53:49 PM PST by rhema

No doubt you’ve been watching the unfolding drama of the Susan B. Komen for the Cure foundation’s decision to de-fund Planned Parenthood — and then its stunning reversal.

What you saw last week was a concerted, intentional effort by an ideological minority — the radical pro-abortion forces — not just to make their case in public, but to destroy the opposition. Using incendiary language, accusing Komen of endangering the lives of women, they made no pretense to pursue civil discourse.

And it’s a tragedy that Komen for the Cure caved. Because all of the rational arguments were on their side.

First of all, Planned Parenthood does not perform mammograms, its doctors simply provide breast cancer referrals. No wonder Komen for the Cure figured its money could be better spent on organizations that provide direct treatment.

And of course there’s the uncomfortable link between breast cancer and abortion. A 2009 study by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center showed “a statistically significant 40% increased risk [of breast cancer] for women who have abortions.”

Second, Komen’s stated policy was not to contribute to organizations under investigation. Well, Planned Parenthood is under Congressional investigation for potentially misusing federal funds — funds that by law may not be used for abortions. In 2010, the organization received fully 46 percent of its funding — 487 million dollars — from government grants.

Yet according to Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report, the organization and its many affiliates performed more than 329,000 abortions in 2010 — or a full 91 percent of services rendered to pregnant women.

It sure sounds to me that they’re flaunting the law.

Finally, this never was about the money. Komen’s grant was a drop in Planned Parenthood’s bucket. As Tim Stanley of the UK Telegraph pointed out, Komen for the Cure’s annual grant made up a mere .058 percent of Planned Parenthood’s budget!

So what is this all about? Look friends, Komen is the kind of respectable and mainstream partner that Planned Parenthood desperately needs to continue its charade that it is all about “women’s health.” And it and its friends will bully and shout down anybody who dares to disagree with them.

What happened to Komen is a perfect example of the despotism of the modern left. Disagree with them, they vilify you and seek to intimidate you into silence. Tragically, Komen caved.

As I’ve been saying on BreakPoint for the last three or four months, we must break the spiral of silence. That’s why it is so important to speak out, even now. Let Komen know that you appreciated what they did to de-fund Planned Parenthood — come to BreakPoint.org and we’ll link you to their website — and that you are horrified that they didn’t have the courage to stick to their convictions.

Here is the lesson for us in all of this: We must have the courage of our convictions. Remember, courage is the first of the cardinal virtues, the virtue on which all others depend. We must never cave when it comes to defending the Truth, no matter what comes our way.

Question: When the NFL players wear pink shoes (and etc.) does this support the Susan B. Komen group?

If it does, then one might see some players this season refusing to wear pink, as it would support abortion (however indirectly).

This is really bad for Komen because now everybody knows they fund PP. Most people did not know that before but they do now. Komen will pay a price for caving...they may as well have stayed with their convictions, as Chuck advises.

I learned that the founder/honcho/CEO running the Komen thing makes about half-million a year, and flies first class everywhere she goes, with money people donated for fighting Cancer.
She’s doing well on her sisters disease. That concept used to be called “blood money”.

This will continue to happen until the ideological majority exerts its majority power.

For years now, I’ve been telling my co-workers that Komen gives hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars to the bloody butchers at Planned Predators . . . and for years they’ve considered me radical, nuts, just perhaps toooooo-pro-Life.

Well, the only good that came out of this mess is that it is grossly clear where their donations are going: to help slaughter in most gruesome ways our most helpless unborn Americans. Susan Komen can go to holy hell. May they rot in peace.

Oh, man, not this again.

Chuck, Chuck, Chuck. Chuckster.

You're a good man and I think the world of you, but it's "flauting the law."

Unless they're creating Vegas-show-girl-style costumes out of copies of the Constitution and wearing them while they perform late-term abortions, I guess.

Given who we're talking about here, I'm not sure I'd actually dismiss that possiblity, come to think of it.

Some fifty percent or so of ALL abortions result in the death of what would have been a woman in the future. Planned Parenthood is complicit in the wholesale slaughter of these future women, and all the descendents of those future women that now can never be.

Komen is why I don’t give to many large charities. They are a business first, femist PAC second, and breast cancer is not on the radar screen. Seen to many times.

Komen's problems came from their making their decision because PP was "under investigation", rather than just coming out and saying "PP doesn't do cancer screenings. We've decide to focus our grants on organizations that actually directly do cancer screenings for poor women". Period, end of statement. PP would have had difficulty spinning that.

So Komen is helping to CAUSE breast cancer by contributing to Planned Parenthood. Lovely.

Yes, they managed to make everyone mad now. Both the pro-aborts and the pro-lifers know that Komen is inconsistent and apparently unable to stick to its own mission.

Someone needs to make a poster.. The pink ribbon around the neck of a blue faced infant.

Not one dime of support.

Komen gives hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars ...

Mark Steyn's article on this topic gave numbers (depending on the year) in the $500,000 - $700,000 range, annually, so your "hundreds of thousands" comment is accurate on an annual basis, aggregating to "millions" over several years.

OK, so 1 of 8 American women will get breast cancer sometime in their lives.

Having an abortion raises the risk by 40%. (Fred Hutchison Cancer Center Peer-Reviewed Study)

PP does 329,000 abortions per year.

Komen funds 0.058% of PP, and because PP is flexible to allocate funds as it wishes, 191 of those abortions are effectively funded by Komen.

1/8th of those 191 abortion recipients would be expected to get breast cancer. But because of the increased risk apparently caused by abortion, an additional 76 PP patients will contract breast cancer because the Komen Foundation supported planned parenthood. PER YEAR.

So, for their paltry $700,000 per year, Komen’s giving 76 women breast cancer. That’s less than $10,000 per cancer CAUSED. The 5-year survival rate (good luck after that, a friend died after 10, but young and from the cancer) is 86%. So Komen is KILLING 14 gals per year with their paltry $700,000 donation to Planned Parenthood. (Plus those who dies from their cancer past the statistical deadline).

Don’t let anyone suggest that Komen is wasting money on admin or fundraising. They are admirably efficient, killing women by giving them breast cancer for $50k a pop. You can’t hire a decent hit man for that!
