Pete Wilson endorses Mitt Romney

Former California Gov. Pete Wilson today endorsed Mitt Romney for the GOP nomination, part of a rising move within the party to rally around the frontrunner. Romney has made a big effort to line up high-profile endorsements, although several notables, such as former Florida Gov. and conservative darling Jeb Bush, have remained neutral. Wilson, although considered a conservative in California, is viewed as fairly moderate within the current GOP.

In his endorsement statement, Wilson called Romney “an enthusiastic believer in American exceptionalism” and called him “a spectacular example of it.”

(American exceptionalism is a term traced back to Frenchman Alexis De Toqueville and now de rigueur among modern conservatives, that the United States is unique among nations, in a good way, in contrast to their view that liberals like to denigrate American ideals.)

Wilson cited Romney’s experience as governor of a Democratic state and his electability in his endorsement statement, implying perhaps that such Romney alternatives as Newt Gingrich might damage the party’s down-ballot prospects:

Pete Wilson was the pro-abortion governor of California and did nothing to stop sanctuary cities.

Here’s a wonder... there are a half million Mormons in California... part of the reason Prop 8 had the LDS groundwork in getting it passed.

When is the last time California went to the GOP in the general election? Reagan? I can’t imagine Cali going Republican, but it’s something to think about, given Mitt’s more moderate positions than we like.

“You must have forgotten - Wilson was governor - replaced by Deukmajian, a real conservative.”

Wilson beat Jerry Brown for the US Senate in 1982, the same year Deukmajian beat Tom Bradley for governor. Wilson actually followed Deukmajian as governor in 1990, after the Duke served two terms.

California last voted Republican for Bush over Dukakis in 1988. Romney the betrayer won’t carry it. These are true blue communists, hippies, zillionaires, parasites, and idiots who line the Democrat coastal strongholds there.

“After the big earthquake that knocked down the freeways at the north end of the San Fernando Valley, he told the state highway agency (CAL TRANS) that they would NOT be given the rebuilding job (they estimated four to five years to rebuild.). Wilson took bids from private companies, and offered one millon per day for every day they were under three months rebuilding. The company that got the job finished 5 days early (something like) - and collected a hansom reward which they shared with their employees. “

He did the same with the Oakland Earthquake. That was his strong point. As I understood it, Wilson simply picked up the phone, called the biggest contractors in the state, told them to FIX THE DAMAGE, and said that they would settle on payment afterwards. Screw all the state and federal laws - it was even ok, Heaven Forbid, to have white people working on the project.

Has any Romney ever put on a uniform in service of our Country?

I don't think ANYONE in his family has.
