Former California Gov. Pete Wilson today endorsed Mitt Romney for the GOP nomination, part of a rising move within the party to rally around the frontrunner. Romney has made a big effort to line up high-profile endorsements, although several notables, such as former Florida Gov. and conservative darling Jeb Bush, have remained neutral. Wilson, although considered a conservative in California, is viewed as fairly moderate within the current GOP.
In his endorsement statement, Wilson called Romney an enthusiastic believer in American exceptionalism and called him a spectacular example of it.
(American exceptionalism is a term traced back to Frenchman Alexis De Toqueville and now de rigueur among modern conservatives, that the United States is unique among nations, in a good way, in contrast to their view that liberals like to denigrate American ideals.)
Wilson cited Romneys experience as governor of a Democratic state and his electability in his endorsement statement, implying perhaps that such Romney alternatives as Newt Gingrich might damage the partys down-ballot prospects:

agree, and IMHO it is because they have their cross dressing/homosexual pals at their cocktail parties up in their elitist circles and also they take money off them.
Imagine that the likes of Allen West was running instead, a military conservative guy in a swing state FL,my state .
Now he goes to the hispanic communities, the black communities the military and he mentions that obama wants the homosexual agenda etc, he goes to their mega churches and then he gets obama and the left on record mentioning such social issues.
That kind of candidate, a military guy who has balls would easily beat this bozo we have and instead we get the establishment wanting Romney a north east elitist RINO who can’t even bring his own state in for a win.
I honestly do despair and maybe it is time for a third party.
I’ve always been against it but right now the establishment has pissed all over us and I’ve just had it with them.
I wish Allen West had more of a national projection. He’s excellent on the social issues (as well as others, such as international matters), and for some reason he doesn’t come across as a prissy sanctimonius twerp like Santorum, who I think actually the effect of alienating people on these issues.
West is a very solid, manly person, and perhaps that’s why he can be so direct.
Yeah, I know what you mean...I never thought of third party, either, until now.
remember when Reagan said the Dem party left him ?
I think the GOP left many of us , infact millions of us and since this year I have been thinking third party and if we had the likes of West , etc then we can get our message out because these whiny little pansies we have now are not doing anything but giving long boring no emotion speeches on the floor.
Passion, emotion etc is what we want
Wow, this comes on top of the unanimous endorsement of the "Denny Hastert Jacuzzi Club."
Does Pete have any supporters besides himself?
Yeah... Possibly Mrs. Wilson and Dennis the Menace!!!
Of course he did. Who else would he endorse?
Traditionally, Pete has been supported by an Athletic Supporter.
Pete Wilson? Now there’s a kiss of death in CA. Romney’d take CA anyway.
You’ve got it mixed up. Wilson followed Deukmajian and killed CA for the GOP with the Prop 187 overreach and his “great” governing. He begat Grey Davis (Jerry Brown’s old chief of staff) who was recalled in his second term giving us Arnold followed by Jerry Brown Part II.
Good to know. At any rate, the primary will be different than the general, in terms of delegates.
In related news, the Mormon Church responded to the Prop 8 ruling today.
“Pete has been supported by an Athletic Supporter.”
Does he need an Athletic Supporter?
I DON’T SEE WHY!!! (sorry for shouting but I’m pist over Prop 8 and the rape of the first amendment over religious liberty)
No, actually, he has always been missing those parts.
Yep, I’ve had it happen with a couple of things I’ve posted, too. I was really questioning the mods call because they decide what goes in, stay, or gets nixed. It’s all good.
I despised Wilson, but never saw prop 187 as an “overreach”, it was a great victory which was sat on by a judge until it was squashed when a new (waited for) political leadership came into place.
What happened in California within the Republican party was that the moderates destroyed the party by joining with the left to defeat the conservative base, naturally the other party just steps in and takes over after that.
Today Pete Wilson Endorses Ted Cruz.
What is it with these GOPe people continuing to endorse a guy that can’t win and will get the nomination???????
UREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
